The Boney 500: Songs 248-246

#1 Post by T_Bone0806 » Fri Jul 15, 2016 11:05 am

Here are our final 3 songs for the week. We'll pick up again on Monday with Week 8 of the countdown.

248. COME ON COME ON-CHEAP TRICK (1977)
Album: In Color

This song encapsulates everything I love about this band. Dripping with sweet
melody but still rocks with a little attitude. It's a PERFECT example of Power Pop.

247. DANIEL-ELTON JOHN (1973)
Album: Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player

Such a classic. This gentle song about a returning Vietnam war vet who just wants to
go back to a normal life without any undue attention is just beautiful. One of Elton's
best. One of those I wished I had written..if I had the talent of a great songwriter of course.

246. LET IT ROLL-LITTLE FEAT (1988)
Album: Let It Roll

And roll it does, at a breakneck pace that's like a train whose brakes have given
out. Not a song that's safe to listen to if your foot's anywhere near a gas pedal.

Big fan of the Feat and of a genre I call swamp rock.

Daniel is an amazing song, and I remember a long ago RadioDude announcing confidently that the song was about death. "That's right, death," and I agreed. So I just looked it up, and Bernie Taupin says that Daniel is the most misinterpreted song he and Elton John ever wrote, and it's not about death at all. When it's about death, it's amazing. When it's about what it's really about, it's stratospheric.

And thanks for Let It Roll. I can imagine that one blasting outta the cassette deck of a 1975 3/4 ton Ford F250 pickup with four wheel drive, custom camper shell with custom cabinets made by the owner heading to Canyonlands or Stony Pass or whatever new adventure awaited us.

It is indeed an awesome barreling down the road song...
