The Boney 500: Songs 218-216

#1 Post by T_Bone0806 » Fri Jul 29, 2016 9:17 am

Three more songs to round out the week. We'll pick back up on Monday.

218. TELL ME WHY-THE BEATLES (1964)
Album: A Hard Days Night

Another exuberant slice of Beatlemania from their great first movie. The harmonies are
airtight and unusual. For a song about a deceitful lover, it's pretty darn joyful sounding.
As with most of the Beatles' stuff, the original recording is not on Youtube, so here's a
link to an audio post from another site.

217. AJA-STEELY DAN (1977)
Album: Aja

Jazz and rock melt together on this work of virtuosity. Great guitar solo by
Denny Diaz, but it gets overshadowed by Wayne Shorter's sax work, and ESPECIALLY Steve Gadd's
drum solos, which are nothing short of phenomenal.

216. SUFFRAGETTE CITY-DAVID BOWIE (1972)
Album: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars

One one of our go to rock n'roll party songs back in the day and still a classic rock
staple. And of course, we all joined in with Bowie when it got to "wham, bam, thank you
ma'am". In fact, when my high school rock band did the song, we did that part twice.
'Cuz we were cool like that lol.

Three more good ones. I named a character in one of my books "Aja" after this song.

I'm not a big Bowie fan, but Ziggy Stardust is great from top to bottom. Suffragette City make the volume go up just a bit whenever it comes on. Okay, a lot.
