The Boney 500: Songs 227-225

227. UPTOWN GIRL-BILLY JOEL (1983)

I know a fair amount of folks who don't like this song. Ah well...to each his own. I find this
right-on-target tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons irresistable. In fact, I think it
sounds so fi-yi-yine...

226. HEAVEN KNOWS-THE GRASS ROOTS (1969)
Album: Leaving It All Behind

Unfairly left out of most conversations about great singles bands, in my opinion, is this band. Their
stuff always sounded great on the radio, and I still listen to their greatest hits collection quite
often. Great AM Radio bands need appreciation, too. This one has a catchy singalong melody and some
nice punchy horns.

225. IF I FELL-THE BEATLES (1964)
Album: A Hard Day's Night

Who says John didn't have a tender side? Perhaps it was more cautious in tone than the flip side
of the single, Paul's "And I Love Her", but it was still a thing of beauty. Admittedly, though, it was yet
another example of the complimentary nature of the Lennon/McCartney partnership, with Paul's song full of
optimism and John's seeking assurance that he's not being a fool for opening up his heart again. Of the two
songs on the single, this one comes out on top for me. I also love the scene from "A Hard Days Night" that
this song is in, where John sings this to Ringo trying to get him out of a sulky mood. Charming. Just watch..
