The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

TMITSSS-you really, really need to look at my new favorite internet site. It is kind of like you and me put together a site. Music, movies, books and TV shows plus a lot of historical badasses.
