Lyrically Speaking 2/8/16

#1 Post by Blaise_Pascal » Mon Feb 08, 2016 7:58 am

LB was very kind to let me host this LSWE game since I am one of his favorite Merry Men that's not in his closet. I'd like to wager that you'll really enjoy taking a chance on playing today's contest, which features songs that have some connection to the fine art of gambling. Whew, is it hot down here, or is it just me?

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist....

1. I'm a man without conviction,
I'm a man who doesn't know
how to sell a contradiction.

2. This low down bitchin'
Got my poor feet a itchin'
Don't you know the deuce is still wild

3. Sit down, take a look at yourself
Don't you want to be somebody
Someday somebody's gonna see inside
You have to face up, you can't run and hide

4. There you stood
Everybody watched you play
I just turned and walked away
I had nothing left to say

5. Odds were in my favor
I had him five to one
When that nag came around the track
Sure enough he had won

6. 'Cause you make the darkness seem so far
And when I'm lost you'll be my guide
I just turn around and you're by my side

7. And the mourners are all singin' as they drag you by your feet
But the hangman isn't hangin' so they put you on the street

8. Russian roulette is not the same without a gun
And baby when it's love if it's not rough it isn't fun

9. Bright light city gonna set my soul
Gonna set my soul on fire
Got a whole lot of money that's ready to burn,
So get those stakes up higher

10. I call you on the telephone my voice too rough with cigarettes.
I sometimes thing I should just go home but I'm dealing with a memory
that never forgets
I love to hear you say my name especially when you say yes
I got your body right now on my mind and I drunk myself blind to the
sound of old T-Rex

11. Well they blew up the Chicken man in Philly last night
Now they blew up his house too
Down on the boardwalk they're getting ready for a fight
Gonna see what them racket boys can do

12. He said, "Son, I've made a life out of readin' people's faces.
Knowin' what the cards were by the way they held their eyes

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that has at least some tenuous connection to gambling.

Image Bonus: I'm betting you can show me an image that somehow relates to the theme of this game.

4. There you stood
Everybody watched you play
I just turned and walked away

7. And the mourners are all singin' as they drag you by your feet

We got one with the rhythm method! Lizbit read the words out loud and got the rhythm nearly perfect on her very first try. We kept chanting the words over and over until a tune started to play in our heads, and more words started to come to us. That was fun!

But the IBB goes for an image that was only tangentially related to gambling via the Queen of Diamonds (and possibly Ol' Blue Eyes), congrats jarnon! The Manchurian Candidate was one of my favorite books I had to read in school, and the trigger card was the subject of the very first QoD I ever asked on this Bored way back on August 1, 2000...

JJC Points:

smiler gets a JJC point for another great work of art...

ear gets a JJC point for gambling his retirement away...

frank gets a JJC point for Stubby Kaye, who I pulled out of one of his Tangredi games recently...

jarnon gets 3 JJC points for playing a little solitaire...

BiT gets 2 JJC points for the Bingo card, and would've gotten a supermax had he found one with O-75 on it to go with the 7 and 13...

Krox gets 2 JJC points for a two of a kind and a pair of aces...

TBone gets 2 JJC points for finding something for his groupies to do on Sunday afternoon...

Sprots gets a JJC point for the dead squirrel's hand (Had she dug up the picture of ES peeking at her cards from my infamous poker game, she might've stolen the IBB from jarnon...)

elwood gets 2 JJC points for the statistic about Russian roulette...

BeBe gets 3 JJC points for the rhythm method and bad memories...

Esto gets a JJC point for Poker With Friends...
