Major head FB coach retirement announced

Frank Beamer, the winningest active coach in major college football, and who basically made Virginia Tech into a major player in college football instead of the school-you-wanted-to-play-at-Homecoming, has announced his retirement after 29 seasons at Tech, effective at the end of the season.

(I don't joke about the homecoming line. I remember going to an Alabama homecoming in the early 1970s where Bama won 77-6. Bama's offense scored on the opening drive, and the next offensive series they went to the second string, already up 21-0 after two blocked punts for TDs.)
