New Season Ratings are in
Disney-ABC’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire dropped 25% to an all-time series low 1.2 as it kicked off season 14 with new host Chris Harrison, who follows one-year hosting stints by Terry Crews and Cedric the Entertainer. The show was downgraded at the start of this season on WABC New York to 1:35 am (and also airs in double-runs on WLNY New York at 4 p.m.) to make room for FABLife.

Shame is, the new (classic) format and Chris Harrison isn't bad, but it's clear the stations have pretty much given up on the show considering some of the time slots.

It moved to the wee hours here in Los Angeles as well. --Bobgoongas wrote:Disney-ABC’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire dropped 25% to an all-time series low 1.2 as it kicked off season 14 with new host Chris Harrison, who follows one-year hosting stints by Terry Crews and Cedric the Entertainer. There's no grading on a curve in TV ratings, to adjust for the horrible timeslots the show has been dumped into, right?
Chris Harrison may not be Regis, but he's a decent host. It burns me to think that he might get blamed if the show fails after this season, instead of Cedric and Terry and all of TPTB who were responsible for making them hosts, in the first place.

WWTBAM moved to 1:05 a.m. in Austin, after Celebrity Name Game. Later than that when Thursday Night Football is on. This could kill the show, although Family Feud managed to survive in horrible time slots and gradually worked its way up to some excellent ratings. I don't know if Chris Harrison will get that opportunity. I was pretty unimpressed with the college kids that he was fawning over all week, and by how little knowledge it apparently takes to get into very exclusive universities. Taping the whole season before the first episode aired didn't allow for any fine tuning based on what audiences liked or disliked.

Maybe he should do a reverse Terry Crews. He should get on the Bachelor and say "Hi, I'm Chris Harrison. You might know me from my other show....."

Considering all the ABC O&O's that air the show have it in late night time slots, and also considering those are at least the top 5 TV markets in the US, this makes me wonder how much ratings would be up if the show was able to keep it's original slots.
Unfortunately this is the cycle of shows that hang on, ratings go down, show gets moved to slots where nobody would watch, show gets cancelled for all-time low ratings.

In Atlanta, it retained decent time slots (3 pm and 3:30 pm) but got moved to channel 17 which is not a major network affiliate.
I agree with most of the comments above; I'm actually watching the show again, perhaps because they've started the year with some competitive contestants.
Thank goodness they got rid of shuffled questions/dollars. The questions seem appropriately valued though still a little too heavy on the celebrity topics.

I live in LA too and it's also airing a double run at the much better time slots of 6:00 and 6:30 on KDOC, although it's an independent station that's channel 56 so it's a little hard to find.Bob78164 wrote:It moved to the wee hours here in Los Angeles as well. Thanks. I had no idea there was another source for the show here. --Bobpeiboy91 wrote:I live in LA too and it's also airing a double run at the much better time slots of 6:00 and 6:30 on KDOC, although it's an independent station that's channel 56 so it's a little hard to find.Bob78164 wrote:It moved to the wee hours here in Los Angeles as well.
