RIP Kyle-Jean Baptiste

#1 Post by mrkelley23 » Sat Aug 29, 2015 7:23 pm

Sad news from the world of musical theater.

Especially poignant for me, since he had recently made headlines by being the youngest to ever play Jean Valjean, when he was 33 years younger than I was when I did the role in community theatre.

Very sad accident.

In case anyone wonders, as did I, if it was anything other than an accident, he was under contract to start on The Color Purple soon, so this was not anything about depression from ending his history-making part.

My co-worker who follows these things way more deeply than I do says Jean-Baptiste would have been a superstar. I confess to not liking his singing style in the "Bring Him Home" clip on Broadway World's site, but not everyone likes every singer's choices. Every other line in those lyrics was very painful tonight, though.
