Illinois has fired their head football coach, Tim Beckman, one week before the season starts. The university has confirmed allegations about mistreatment of players.

EDIT: it looks like Ex-Coach Beckman is not going quietly into that good night.

I hope the actual truth comes out in this one. I don't know a whole lot about him, but he seemed to me to be a genuine good person. If he was indeed encouraging players to play through injuries in defiance of medical personnel, then he deserves to be fired, and he should pay the court costs. If he's been hung out to dry by an administration that didn't like his WL record and therefore bought the stories of a few disgruntled players, then I hope he gets all the millions of dollars in the contract he signed, plus a few for punitive damages.
