I know this is harsh, but some folks need to have their kids taken away. Permanently. Period.
I heard about this (briefly) yesterday -- it's a local story -- but couldn't find it in the Richmond papers. Ironically, I stumbled upon it on al.com (referencing a Richmond TV station).

Short version: Woman left child in car while she went shopping at a Sam's Club (so you know it wasn't going to be quick) in late May, and policeman gave her a warrant to appear in court about the charge.
So she goes to court on Monday....
...and leaves TWO of her kids in the car on a 90 degree day while she's in the hearing. Sheriff's deputies got the children out after about an hour. Mom's in the lockup, and kids are with their dad.
Sometimes you have to wonder about folks.

Probably not this quote:
You know, Mrs. Buchman, you need a license to buy a dog, to drive a car---hell, you even need a license to catch a fish. But they'll let any butt-reaming asshole be a father.
