ANSWERS/POINTS LS THEME THURSDAY March 27

#1 Post by fantine33 » Thu Mar 27, 2008 7:28 am

Originally posted 8-29-02

This was the last LS game in August, 2002 and, rather than change any songs, 6 & 8 get full credit for just the title (yes, I'm lazy and don't want to have to research all the guesses. Ha!).

1. I want you to tell me
Just what you intend to do now
'Cause how many times
Do I have to tell you, darlin', darlin'
I'm still in love with you now

2. Well, she used to run around with every man in town
Spent all my money playing a highclass game
She put me out, it was a pity how I cried
The tables turned and now it‘s her turn to cry

3. I'll find you in the mornin' sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you

4. Those times I waited for you seem so long ago
I wanted you far too much to ever let you go
You know you never got by your fear to choose
And I guess I never could stand to lose

5. I'm through with romance, I'm through with love
I'm through with counting the stars above
And here's the reason that I'm so free
My lovin' baby is through with me

6. Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate

7. I wonder if anyone missed me
Or have I been gone so long
They thought that I'd died
How many said I wonder what happened to Alice
How many shrugged or laughed
How many cried
But I don't give a damn

8. No one here can love or understand me
Oh what hard luck stories they all hand me
Make my bed and light the light
I'll arrive late tonight

9. Leave your stepping stones behind, something calls for you
Forget the dead you've left, they will not follow you
The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore
Strike another match, go start anew

10. How's your new love
I hope that he's doin' fine
Heard you told him
That you'd love him till the end of time
Now, that's the same thing that you told me
Seems like just the other day

Today’s Theme:

Bonus Bonus: The 1942 movie in which #6 above is featured prominently was based on the play of what name? That sounds goofy. What was the name of the play upon which the 1942 movie in which the song…. Never mind. Song #6 was in a movie. That movie was based on a play. What was the name of that play?

Super Bonus: Song #10 above was written by a man who I’ll bet has written more songs that more people have covered and had hits with them than just about anybody else that comes to mind. Who is this genius (and one of my favourite) songwriter?

You know you never got by your fear to choose
And I guess I never could stand to lose

5. I'm through with romance, I'm through with love
I'm through with counting the stars above
And here's the reason that I'm so free
My lovin' baby is through with me
BYE BYE LOVE -- EVERLY BROTHERS

6. Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate
AS TIME GOES BY??

7. I wonder if anyone missed me
Or have I been gone so long
They thought that I'd died
How many said I wonder what happened to Alice
How many shrugged or laughed
How many cried
But I don't give a damn

8. No one here can love or understand me
Oh what hard luck stories they all hand me
Make my bed and light the light
I'll arrive late tonight

9. Leave your stepping stones behind, something calls for you
Forget the dead you've left, they will not follow you
The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore
Strike another match, go start anew

10. How's your new love
I hope that he's doin' fine
Heard you told him
That you'd love him till the end of time
Now, that's the same thing that you told me
Seems like just the other day
FUNNY (HOW TIME SLIPS AWAY) -- WILLIE NELSON, ALSO A HIT FOR JOE HINTON

Today’s Theme:
BREAKUP SONGS / ADIOS - HAVE A NICE LIFE

Bonus Bonus: The 1942 movie in which #6 above is featured prominently was based on the play of what name? That sounds goofy. What was the name of the play upon which the 1942 movie in which the song…. Never mind. Song #6 was in a movie. That movie was based on a play. What was the name of that play?
EVERYBODY COMES TO RICK'S??

Super Bonus: Song #10 above was written by a man who I’ll bet has written more songs that more people have covered and had hits with them than just about anybody else that comes to mind. Who is this genius (and one of my favourite) songwriter?

This was the last LS game in August, 2002 and, rather than change any songs, 6 & 8 get full credit for just the title (yes, I'm lazy and don't want to have to research all the guesses. Ha!).

1. I want you to tell me
Just what you intend to do now
'Cause how many times
Do I have to tell you, darlin', darlin'
I'm still in love with you now

GO NOW - MOODY BLUES

2. Well, she used to run around with every man in town
Spent all my money playing a highclass game
She put me out, it was a pity how I cried
The tables turned and now it‘s her turn to cry

IT'S ALL OVER NOW - ROLLING STONES

And Molly Hatchet! Who knew? (Besides KT)

3. I'll find you in the mornin' sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you

I'LL BE SEEING YOU - LIBERACE

Funny, to me this is Liberace's song, always and forever (I love Jimmy Durante's version as well), even though everybody and their brother has done it. And I get TWO Barry Manilow's and NO Liberace? I don't think anybody put down a wrong artist for this one.

Who knows why I put the last line in there? Maybe I thought the title was In All Those Old Familiar Places? Maybe I decided to take some pity on people with the last game of the month? Maybe I wanted to screw with people so they'd second guess it? I don't know.

4. Those times I waited for you seem so long ago
I wanted you far too much to ever let you go
You know you never got by your fear to choose
And I guess I never could stand to lose

GOODBYE TO YOU - PATTY SMYTHE & SCANDAL

Just Scandal was full credit.

5. I'm through with romance, I'm through with love
I'm through with counting the stars above
And here's the reason that I'm so free
My lovin' baby is through with me

BYE BYE LOVE - EVERLY BROTHERS

6. Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate

AS TIME GOES BY

Had I been scoring by artist, it would have been Dooley Wilson (of course), although my favourite version is by Jimmy Durante (of course).

7. I wonder if anyone missed me
Or have I been gone so long
They thought that I'd died
How many said I wonder what happened to Alice
How many shrugged or laughed
How many cried
But I don't give a damn

COMING HOME - ALICE COOPER

I so wanted mikehardware to answer this before he left, just to see if he'd put the same thing he did before. I think he got the first ever humour points I'd ever given for "Housekeeper Blues by Ann B. Davis". Read the lyrics over again, it's hilarious!

8. No one here can love or understand me
Oh what hard luck stories they all hand me
Make my bed and light the light
I'll arrive late tonight

BYE BYE BLACKBIRD

The person I most associate with singing this? Jason Robards in Melvin and Howard. It was my favourite scene. I also liked it when Glenn Close did it in Maxie.

9. Leave your stepping stones behind, something calls for you
Forget the dead you've left, they will not follow you
The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore
Strike another match, go start anew

IT'S ALL OVER NOW, BABY BLUE - BOB DYLAN

10. How's your new love
I hope that he's doin' fine
Heard you told him
That you'd love him till the end of time
Now, that's the same thing that you told me
Seems like just the other day

FUNNY HOW TIME SLIPS AWAY - FARON YOUNG

And Willie, naturally. This was the closing for a band my dad played with at times. A different one than had The Party's Over as their closing. (Did he ever have a closing song that WASN'T by Wille Nelson? I don't think so. Ha!)

Today’s Theme: GOODBYES AND ENDINGS Since this was the last game of the month at that time. lb got half credit for breaking up, since that's sort of like goodbyes and endings.

EVERYBODY COMES TO RICK'S

Everybody GOES to Rick's got half credit.

Super Bonus: Song #10 above was written by a man who I’ll bet has written more songs that more people have covered and had hits with them than just about anybody else that comes to mind. Who is this genius (and one of my favourite) songwriter?

WILLIE NELSON! YAY! I also gave 5 fun points to anybody who answered JJ Cale. Caro, you missed out by changing your mind and trying for the correct answer.

Spoiler

IT'S TOO LATE BABY, ITS TOO LATE. Or so it seems as far as getting points. I have to check if I missed dear Carole King somewhere in the group of songs. But there are a couple of my favorites today, and I want to write them down. Down, down.

1. I want you to tell me
Just what you intend to do now
'Cause how many times
Do I have to tell you, darlin', darlin'
I'm still in love with you now

Go Now! Moody Blues (first incarnation). 1965 had a knockout record released almost every week. This was one.

2. Well, she used to run around with every man in town
Spent all my money playing a highclass game
She put me out, it was a pity how I cried
The tables turned and now it‘s her turn to cry

It's All Over Now -- Rolling Stones. "The Last Time" would also fit and would be almost contemperaneous with Go Now. This one is 1964.

3. I'll find you in the mornin' sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you

isn't this I'll Be Seeing You??

Bye Bye Love - Everlies

6. Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate

As Time Goes By - Rod Stewart, among others. Since 2002.

7. I wonder if anyone missed me
Or have I been gone so long
They thought that I'd died
How many said I wonder what happened to Alice
How many shrugged or laughed
How many cried
But I don't give a damn

I am guessing this Alice is Alice Cooper.

8. No one here can love or understand me
Oh what hard luck stories they all hand me
Make my bed and light the light
I'll arrive late tonight

I'm just a prisoner of loooooovvveee.

9. Leave your stepping stones behind, something calls for you
Forget the dead you've left, they will not follow you
The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore
Strike another match, go start anew

Its All Over Now, Baby Blue Bob Dylan.

10. How's your new love
I hope that he's doin' fine
Heard you told him
That you'd love him till the end of time
Now, that's the same thing that you told me
Seems like just the other day
