This contestant drove me crazy. I always want the contestants to do well, but I was relieved when she went out.

I thought I'd seen an old news clip of Landon's concession speech, but I couldn't find it. I must be confusing it with something else. I did find his speech where he accepted the Republican nomination -- very powerful stuff.

I agree. I found her pretty annoying and full of herself. She managed to answer 2 of 6 questions correctly on her own, so maybe that's better than average for an 18 year old. Casting people like this is good for the show's budget.

Q4: No idea. ATA & pray.

Q6: Despite having recently watched the Ken Burns documentary on the Roosevelts, I couldn't remember who Teddy or Franklin ran against in their various years. Well, OK, I can remember Teddy coming back to unsuccessfully run against Taft, but that's not relevant here. However, I knew Eisenhower ran against Adlai Stevenson, twice I believe, & Kennedy against Nixon. And I know Gallup wasn't around as a poller during the Teddy years. And neither was Landon old enough to run at that time. So it has to be Franklin R.

Comment on contestant, who seems to have rubbed some of us the wrong way: She's no more full of herself than some other bad players. Just younger. I would cut her some slack for her youth. But she didn't even get the pop culture Q without help, as it was probably from "before her time". (I don't have that excuse; I just didn't know. Or care, unless you were suddenly to pay me to know, as BAM has a habit of doing with Qs like this.)

We all, we who try to get on, have to take a test to get to the interview. With some contestants, its just hard to believe they even passed the test. At my most recent test-taking I can't say they picked out people & just gave them a pretend-pass. There was a young woman at my test-taking table who didn't pass, & therefore didn't get to the interview, though her boyfriend did. And she was a lot more trivia savvy, as well as being eye-candy for the potential youth audience, than some who have apparently passed, because they got on the show. Who knows?

It doesn't bother me when young people don't know stuff. I commented because she didn't have a clue as to the (simple) answer, yet went ahead to doubt that the audience would, too. She should have kept that thought to herself.

The "that was before my time" excuse, however, irks me. These people are in the internet age. We (geezers) didn't have that growing up. This excuse implies that no on should ever get a history question right.

Estonut:

You know that stuff you lived through, if you were old enough to pay attention & were, makes a bigger impression than stuff you heard/read etc about.

Being clueless is not being presumptuous and insulting. If she had any idea that penguins were an Antarctic species, she'd have never needed that lifeline.

Congratulations to her for getting cast on this show, which so many of us have failed to do. While her youth made her a desirable contestant, some more life experience might have made her a more successful one.

I'm not so sure they want "successful". They seem to give contestants the big bucks up front and then wait for them to either fail and take the $1K or leave with half the bank.
