Not good. Apparently a big rig struck a beam on the bridge that is under construction causing it to collapse onto the freeway.

I drove through there twice this month, on the way to and from my mom's funeral in Kentucky. Not a fun drive, but apparently it could have been worse.

http://www.nbcdfw.com/traffic/stories/B ... 75931.html

At least one person is dead after a semi collided with a Central Texas overpass, causing a beam to come crashing down onto vehicles on Interstate 35.

Jodi Wheatley with the Texas Department of Transportation says the big rig was too high to clear part of the overpass in Salado and hit a beam sending parts of the bridge crashing down onto vehicles in both directions of I-35.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says one person died in the crash and several others were injured. DPS asked everyone to avoid the area.

Wheatley described it as "a major situation," and first responders are still on the scene.

The Bell County Sheriff's Department says the accident happened late Thursday morning. Salado is about 40 miles north of Austin.

Lt. Donnie Adams says traffic has been halted in both directions.

Let's see, tornados in Oklahoma, a building collapse in NYC, and a bridge collapse in Texas.

The bored is turning into a disaster report.

Add to the list syndiBAM's abysmal ratings.

At least these didn't happen 35 years ago.

Thanks, Beebs. I know everyone's mom is special, but mine was one of the best. To keep this on topic, I'll add that she was literally my first Phone A Friend when I got the call to go to NYC in 1999. But she already had a long track record in that role, and I knew I could count on her to do her best for me.

Thanks, Ghost. I know that everyone has to deal with it, but you never know how it feels until it happens to you.

I'm sorry to hear about your mother, too, Ed. I didn't realize when I read your post it was a recent thing. (missed the 'this month').

Quite a lady.

Adding my condolences. Losing your mother is one of the saddest things that can happen to you.

I just read the obituary. Ed, I would have loved your mother. I am so sorry that she had to leave you, although I'm certain that she'll remain with you in another sense for all your life.
