Fun with Spotify

#1 Post by ghostjmf » Fri Mar 20, 2015 10:39 am

I think Spotify is a great service, since it lets me listen to music for free with only a very occasional commercial. I'm happy & reasonably surprised that lots, though not all folky-type stuff I like to listen to is on it. I didn't know Norma Waterson & daughter Eliza Carthy had released a duo album in '10!. Etc. And it keeps playing on my tablet when I do other things on the tablet, something youtube music does not. However I cannot listen except when riding on someone's WiFi, as its not free regarding data connection, despite T-Mobile's ads that it would be; nothing they advertise as free is really free unless you're what they call a post-paid customer, which are their contract customers, except now without the 2-year contract.

So T-Mobile kept bugging me about their system updates, which then wouldn't download. Finally I got them to download, & now Spotify won't work. So I tried to hash this out with Spotify, only to be directed by the robot that answers their mail with links I'd already used to no avail.

So I did the time-honored fix of de-install, followed by re-install. Re-install was accompanied by a whole lot of noxious Facebook connections which didn't come with original installation. I was able to defang most but not all of them. And they assigned me a username they wouldn't let me change to what I wanted.

Finally, a real human answers my mail to Spotify. I tell them I had gotten tired of waiting for real human to give real advice, & had done the de-install/re-install, which had worked. Real Human writes back that now they can see I have 2 Spotify accounts, could I let them detach one of them. They would need my birthday & zip code. I said "sure, detach the one from 1st installation, but I'm not giving you my birthday, because I didn't originally. Here's my zip code.".

Turns out I couldn't use username I wanted for 2nd install because it had been assigned to me, somehow (I never chose it, but it derives from my email address) with 1st install.

They write back that they can't detach it without my birthday. I never gave them my birthday for that account. I had to give a birthday for the 2nd account, so I made one up. I can appreciate the demographic gnomes, so I always give them real year. But not real month & day.

Their info for 2nd account has additional flawed info; I can see that I seem to have typed in "gnmail.com" instead of "gmail.com" for my e-mail. Since I'm sending them letters from gmail.com, though, their answers are getting to me.
