Re: CIA Director David Petraeus resigns because of affair
Wow, all this crap breaks right AFTER the election. And just the absolute kind of salacious stuff our valiant media just laps up in gulps. Kinda makes the Benghazi stuff seem boring.
Just the first act of FLEX-O-BAMA. He is now free to do stuff he couldn't get away with having to face re-election. The Russians were tipped off about FLEX-O-BAMA and we got to hear it by accident, but it pretty much applies to everything.
You heard 'FLEX-O-BAMA' here first. I made it up. It fits. Go now and disseminate it all over the social media.
It worked for the dems....

But the 20 to 30 thousand pages business amazes me. This supposedly took place over the course of two years, so there are at least 10,000 pages per year, which works out to nearly 30 pages a day. When did they ever have time for anything else?

Petraeus claims the affair didn't start until after he had retired from the military. --BobFlybrick wrote:Finally, I wonder how many subordinates both Petreous and Allen punished for fraternization/adultery/etc under the UCMJ.

Now NBC News says that the FBI agent in charge of Jill Kelley's email threat case sent her shirtless photos. Stupid!

Oh, well, if that's what he says, then it's not an issue at all.Bob78164 wrote:Petraeus claims the affair didn't start until after he had retired from the military. --Bob
I mean, it's not like his reputation and integrity have been thrown away, so naturally, his word is still good. Nor that he could potentially, if unlikely, face UCMJ charges if it was prior to his retirement.
Move along here, nothing to see...

The FBI would know the answer. Presumably, if he were lying about this, they would have turned the information over to the Pentagon, just as they did with General Allen for e-mails that have been characterized as "flirtatious."Flybrick wrote:Oh, well, if that's what he says, then it's not an issue at all.Bob78164 wrote:Petraeus claims the affair didn't start until after he had retired from the military. --Bob

It wouldn't at all surprise me to learn that someone who lived his entire adult life under military discipline might take the occasion of his retirement to let his hair down. --Bob

Don't get me wrong. I agree he had to go. He put himself in a position where he was at least potentially subject to blackmail, and the DCI can't do that. --BobDevilKitty100 wrote:Bob, Honey......would you please send me a pair or two of those glasses you're looking through?Bob78164 wrote:The FBI would know the answer. As FBI investigated Petraeus, he and Allen intervened in nasty child custody battle
More:Then-CIA Director David Petraeus and Gen. John Allen, commander of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan, intervened in a Washington, D.C., custody battle in September, writing letters on behalf of a woman who was found by a judge to have a "severe deficit in honesty and integrity."
The woman, Natalie Khawam, is the twin sister of Tampa socialite Jill Kelley, who has emerged as a central figure in the scandal that led to Petraeus’ resignation last week.
The letters, which have been obtained by NBC News, were filed in court on behalf of Khawam, who the judge hearing the case harshly criticized for a “stunning willingness to say anything, even under oath, to advance her own interests.”

The FBI agent now has a name, Fred Humphries. And the shirtless picture, which Agent Humphries sent to a few friends, look humorous rather than sexual:Bob Juch wrote:Now NBC News says that the FBI agent in charge of Jill Kelley's email threat case sent her shirtless photos. Stupid!

Agent Humphries also informed some Congressman of the investigation because he was worried it may be stalled (which it wasn't). He may emerge as a good guy in this mess.

This is our news media. This is how they define and report the news. This is how they wallow in sleaze to get ratings and how reporters try and make a name for themselves. Anyone with a brain can see what this photo is. To use it in the way that BJ interpreted as is atrocious. Any reporter who looked at this photo and made the interpretation that it was an Anthony Weiner thing should have been fired on the spot. And any others that passed the story on without even seeing the photo should not even have been employed as a journalist in the first place. This is as bad as Brian Ross (who's still employed) reporting a link between the Batman Shooter and the Tea Party.
It's disgusting to me, but how do you fix it?

Re: CIA Director David Petraeus resigns because of affair
The New York Times reports that Gen. Petraeus will plead guilty to removing and retaining classified documents.
Petraeus Reaches Plea Deal Over Giving Classified Data to Lover
That's a rather minor offense that may former officials have committed without being prosecuted. We can assume that he doesn't want to be tried for more serious crimes; even if he's acquitted, the accusations would ruin his reputation. And the trial would reveal the details of his love life.
