Lyrically Speaking - 1/30/15

#1 Post by Larry Brown » Fri Jan 30, 2015 6:42 am

It's the greatest weekend of the entire year! If you haven't heard yet due to the fact that you may be both deaf and blind, the Super Bowl is this Sunday! A day when your average, run of the mill player can turn into a multi million dollar superstar like I did back in 1996! Who knows, maybe the next great LSWUe star is waiting to be born in this game! Well, until that moment when you are worthy enough to bask in the glory I have for two decades, you can still get your picture taken with my Super Bowl XXX MVP trophy for a small $20 fee...

I'm also getting a small appearance fee (I think) from LB for hosting his Super Bowl weekend Free For All Friday game! Below are 16 songs by 16 different artists. Eight of the artists hail from the Seattle area, while the other eight are known for calling the Boston area home. If you can identify which of the two cities each artist comes from, you can get an extra point (Yes, you can blindly guess at the songs you can't identify). I have no dog in this fight, I'll just be waiting for the new Super Bowl MVP at Disneyland... where for some reason I still have to pay to get in.... unless I show up to work wearing my Goofy costume.... sigh, does anyone want my autograph or something?

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 1 point for identifying if each act is from Seattle or Boston....

1. When I talked about it
Carried on, reasons only knew
But it's you I fell into

2. And as a matter of fact, it blows my mind
You would even talk to me
Because a girl like you is a dream come true
A real life fantasy

3. So this ain't the end - I saw you again today
Had to turn my heart away
You smiled like the Sun - kisses for everyone
and tales - it never fails!

4. I know nobody knows
where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody's sin
You got to lose to know how to win

5. What'cha know 'bout rockin' a wolf on your noggin'?
What'cha knowin' about wearin' a fur fox skin?
I'm diggin' I'm diggin' I'm searchin right through that luggage
One man's trash, that's another man's come-up

6. Now I'm lookin' at a flashback Sunday
Zoom lens feelings just won't disappear
Close-up darkroom sweet-talk in my ear

7. Who's gonna hold you down
When you shake
Who's gonna come around
When you break

8. At home drawing pictures of mountain tops
With him on top
Lemon yellow sun
Arms raised in a vee
The dead lay in pools of maroon below

9. We were young, twenty one, all those years ago
In came a fascination, everything is under control
Full of life, untried, through thickets and through thorns
Out came a revelation, everything is out of control

10. Trumpets and violins I can
Uh, hear in the distance
I think they're calling our name
Maybe now you can't hear them
But you will, ha ha, if you
Just take hold of my hand

11. Watchin' these bimbos walkin like hoes
You can have them bimbos
I'll keep my women like Flo Jo

12. I`m not a coward
I`ve just never been tested
I`d like to think that
If I was I would pass

13. And I swear
That I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun

14. I can see it in your walk
Tell it when you talk
I can see it in everything you do
Even in your thoughts

15. If I tell you tonight
Will you turn out the light
And walk away knowin' I love you?

16. Been all around the world and found
That only stupid people are breeding.
The cretins cloning and feeding
And i don't even own a TV

Kroxquo Bonus: Double Krox!!! For 2 points each, name another song with artist who hails from the Seattle area, as well as a song with artist who hails from the Boston area.

I REFUSE to use Wide Right..after all these years, it's still too painful...so I'll use this one, from an otherwise humiliating defeat, when Don Beebe made a stupidly showboating Leon Lett pay by thoroughly embarrassing him..about the only thing we had to cheer about that day..gave me one more reason to hate the Cowboys..

Larry Brown

This was a great game, lb! When I first saw the premise, I didn't immediately think there were as many bands from these cities as there are. You're lucky this game wasn't someone like Green Bay vs. Jacksonville...

Maybe now you can't hear them

Just take hold of my hand

You can have them bimbos

I`ve just never been tested
I`d like to think that
If I was I would pass

13. And I swear
That I don't have a gun

No I don't have a gun

14. I can see it in your walk
Tell it when you talk

Even in your thoughts

Will you turn out the light
And walk away knowin' I love you?

1. When I talked about it
Carried on, reasons only knew
But it's you I fell into
Big Me - Foo Fighters - Seattle

2. And as a matter of fact, it blows my mind
You would even talk to me
Because a girl like you is a dream come true
A real life fantasy
Every Little Step - Bobby Brown - Boston

3. So this ain't the end - I saw you again today
Had to turn my heart away
You smiled like the Sun - kisses for everyone
and tales - it never fails!
Barracuda - Heart - Seattle

4. I know nobody knows
where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody's sin
You got to lose to know how to win
Dream On - Aerosmith - Boston

5. What'cha know 'bout rockin' a wolf on your noggin'?
What'cha knowin' about wearin' a fur fox skin?
I'm diggin' I'm diggin' I'm searchin right through that luggage
One man's trash, that's another man's come-up
Thrift Shop - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Seattle (While I'm not a fan of this song... I love the duo's other hit "Can't Hold Us"... or at least the edit that's been on the Mecca CD before...)

6. Now I'm lookin' at a flashback Sunday
Zoom lens feelings just won't disappear
Close-up darkroom sweet-talk in my ear
Freeze Frame - J Geils Band - Boston

7. Who's gonna hold you down
When you shake
Who's gonna come around
When you break
Drive - Cars - Boston (That kinda makes a crude sentence!)

8. At home drawing pictures of mountain tops
With him on top
Lemon yellow sun
Arms raised in a vee
The dead lay in pools of maroon below
Jeremy - Pearl Jam - Seattle

9. We were young, twenty one, all those years ago
In came a fascination, everything is under control
Full of life, untried, through thickets and through thorns
Out came a revelation, everything is out of control
Do You Love Me - Guster - Boston (Guster's a band I only know of due to the inclusion of a couple of their songs on the Mecca CD. This song of theirs I really love, and featured it on my blog last Fall...)

10. Trumpets and violins I can
Uh, hear in the distance
I think they're calling our name
Maybe now you can't hear them
But you will, ha ha, if you
Just take hold of my hand
Are You Experienced - Jimi Hendrix - Seattle

11. Watchin' these bimbos walkin like hoes
You can have them bimbos
I'll keep my women like Flo Jo
Baby Got Back - Sir Mix-a-Lot

12. I`m not a coward
I`ve just never been tested
I`d like to think that
If I was I would pass
The Impression That I Get - Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Boston (Any excuse I can find to use this song, I always include it...)

13. And I swear
That I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun
Come As You Are - Nirvana - Seattle

14. I can see it in your walk
Tell it when you talk
I can see it in everything you do
Even in your thoughts
You Got It (The Right Stuff) - New Kids on the Block - Boston

15. If I tell you tonight
Will you turn out the light
And walk away knowin' I love you?
Amanda - Boston - Boston (It would have been funny had they been from Seattle, and made for some tricky answers...)

16. Been all around the world and found
That only stupid people are breeding.
The cretins cloning and feeding
And i don't even own a TV
Flagpole Sitta - Harvey Danger - Seattle

I got most of the images I expected... some Deflategate stuff, Nipplegate, even some Broadway Joe. But melly's Bingo card wins the day, and the 5 point IBB! And I didn't even count it against her that she also included one of my least favorite Super Bowl commercials of all time....

JJC Points:

Vandal gets 3 JJC points for a very interesting video...

smiler gets a supermax for Junior Griffey, Aaron Hernandez (best joke answer in the game), missing the Jimi song, and for the obligatory nip slip that I was expecting someone to post...

Panic gets a JJC point for Aeroshit...

frank gets a JJC point for his vast Super Bowl knowledge...

TBone gets 2 JJC points for Don Beebe, one of my favorite Bills players from their glory days...

Beebs gets a Super Bowl supermax...

Krox gets a supermax for his funny answers, and of course, Up With People...

mrk gets 3 JJC points for his shot at the testing craze in schools...

melly gets 3 JJC points for having a bingo...

elwood gets 2 JJC points for being down with the Seattle sound...

Esto gets 2 JJC points for Krox-blocked...
