Re: New PM Messages
I was just about to say that they are ignoring me
... but I checked my spam folder and, sure enough, there are multiple notifications of PMs from Melly, Ody, and Flybrick using the email name "nvadmin" and address nvadmin (at) roseisle.dreamhost.com.

Re: New PM Messages
Well, now that everyone should be able to log in to the Bored, anyone who's still getting those e-mails should go into their User Control Panel/Board Preferences/Edit Global Settings and change "Notify me on new private messages" to "No". That way, you'd still see "# new messages" at the top of the Bored screen if you really did get a new PM, but you shouldn't get any e-mails about them, real or not.Beebs52 wrote:Net net is, whatevs, right?

Re: New PM Messages
That was a great idea to check the spam folder, and there they are from NVadmin.
Whilst there, I saw two very familiar names and wondered how they got into the spam folder. I ran the cursor over the names, and sure enough, they were addresses I'd never heard of.
My BFF from college got hacked Friday. She was supposed to call me Friday night, so I wondered what happened to her, and sure enough, she was frantically trying to salvage her online banking stuff but finally gave it up. She went back to the original version of her computer and now has to re-establish all her online access, automatic bill pay, etc. etc. on Monday with new User IDs and passwords.
Anyway, I consider myself lucky that so far, the filters and firewalls I've installed have seemingly worked. Fingers crossed . . .

Re: New PM Messages
Why I never set up automatic anything is my personal civil libertarian streak ("I will decide if I want to pay this, not some program with access to my vital data & money") but also that my credit card has been cancelled & resent by its bank at least 2 times in the last 10 years "due to problems you won't ever see that we can't (read: won't) get data to you about"). Having to stop & restart auto-pays is just so much work. I'd rather spend the stamp on the mailed-in bill. Its enough to have to tell my mechanic "that card I charged the last fix-it to is no longer valid" (often I have to pick up the car after they close, so can't pay in person).
