Seriously, what's the Yiddish term for a pariah/jinx/Joe Btfsplk type person?

The classic distinction is that a schlimiel is a guy who goes through his life spilling soup at formal dinners. A schlimazl is the guy he spills it on. --BobBob Juch wrote:That could be a schlemiel also.jarnon wrote:SchlimazelSpacemanSpiff wrote:Seriously, what's the Yiddish term for a pariah/jinx/Joe Btfsplk type person?

Yes, schlemiel better fits "pariah/jinx/Joe Btfsplk".Bob78164 wrote:The classic distinction is that a schlimiel is a guy who goes through his life spilling soup at formal dinners. A schlimazl is the guy he spills it on. --BobBob Juch wrote:That could be a schlemiel also.jarnon wrote:Schlimazel

Re: RIP Mrs Wolowitz
I looked into it, and Bob and Bob are right: schlemiel more accurately describes that kind of person. I also found out that, while schlimazel is Yiddish for unlucky, schlemiel comes from an old Hebrew name, Shlumiel.
