'Downton Abbey' Renewed for Sixth Season

I am looking forward to seeing the costumes of Downton Abbey, which are on exhibit at the Winterthur Museum in Wilmington, DE, until January of 2015.

The exhibit displays the clothes, the scenes in the show and, along with each display, is the history of fashion as it refers to that individual piece.

My friend Lori went the other day. I will be going sometime the week after next. I am hoping to combine it with a lecture by Janie Bryant, costume guru of Mad Men, on costume and character. The lecture series on fashion and/or film/TV costumes is in conjunction with the Downton display.

I'd have been shocked if it wasn't renewed. Does PBS have a bigger hit on their schedule?

I just hope they don't have to gratuitously kill off any other major characters because an actor wants to move on to another job.

It's not really up to PBS. It's a British production (the fifth season is airing there currently), so if they decide to pull the plug, there won't be much PBS can do about it.

It's interesting that Dan Stevens, who played Matthew Crawley, left the show because he didn't want to get typecast into bland, decent leading man roles. Although he is playing Sir Lancelot in Ben Stiller's next Museum movie, Stevens has really gone against his Crawley image in a couple of other films (both of which I liked a lot), A Walk Among the Tombstones and the sure-to-be-a-cult-video-hit The Guest. By the way, if you anyone likes wild action horror, The Guest is an ultimate guilty pleasure.

My friend Lori saw Stevens on Broadway in Washington Square. He was a wonderful Morris Townsend, all slithering sincerity.
