I like Christmas music, but I'd prefer to hear it when it's appropriate.

One of our local radio stations (which had a change to a "Lite" format two months ago) went yesterday (10/30) to an all-Christmas music format. Of course, that'll probably mean a four or six hour loop of the same tunes.

I hear this isn't just a local phenomenon. At this point, by Thanksgiving, I'll be in "bah humbug!" mode.

I was in a Kohl's here last week and had to step over Christmas, er, holiday decorations they had laid out on the floor and were beginning to put up.

Look at it this way. Tomorrow will be one of the four best days of the year to buy candy (the other three being December 26, February 15, and Easter Monday).

The "lite" station in Wildwood started a couple weeks ago.

I turned on the radio and, boom, there as Josh Groban singing "O Holy Night."

I thought, maybe, it was the random song here and there to "get listeners in the holiday mood," or some such nonsense.

But, no.

Now, I LOVE Josh Groban's version of "O Holy Night." "O Holy Night" is one of my favorite Christmas hymns.

Just not in mid-October.

At least I'm still hearing regular music on my station that goes to all-holiday tunes every year. I bet they switch the day after the election. Anything is better than nasty political ads!

BTW, the weatherman says we may see snowflakes in time for the trick-or-treaters tonight. Ugh.

My late brother-in-law, who was a chocolate fanatic (so much so that they even gave out chocolate candy at his funeral) always loved the day after Halloween for that reason (and I'm sure the other days as well). He'd wait outside the local supermarket like it was Black Friday, and buy out all of the good stuff at a discount.

I was going to say.... this is Kazoo's annual tradition (literally, EVERY November!), but she's already replied in this thread!

Christmas 2014 is already over. Didn't you get the memo?

Thanks to Lowe's and Home Desperate putting out all their Christmas stuff in early September, Christmas was moved up to some time last week. I was working, so I missed it but pretty sure it's already done for 2014.

RadioDude's station listened to us and start playing Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving, and after that they mix it up with their regular playlist. Their advertisers demand some Christmas music, and the listeners demand that it be non-24/7. They found the right mix.

It's not. One of our stations, also with a "Lite" format, switched over to holiday music on the 30th. (I don't call it Christmas music because a lot of it has little or nothing to do with Christmas per se.)

It's November 3rd, and the election is tomorrow. I just checked the station's website and they are playing "Sleigh Ride" by Johnny Mathis and they've decorated the site's homepage red and green with a big "countdown to Christmas" sign on it. Ugh.

Lawdy, I have one better.

I went to a men's clothing store last night to pick up a suit (job interviewing time and all), and they had a sign on the door:

"CLOSING AT 7 PM FOR HOLIDAY PARTY"

On November 3?

I asked one of the salesmen there about it - what holiday? He said it was basically the annual store Christmas party.

Turns out they want the regional managers to go to all of the holiday parties at all of the stores, so they run for two months; they just drew the short straw for the earliest one.
