New WWTBAM Season - Day 1 "Live" Review

#1 Post by TheConfessor » Mon Sep 08, 2014 3:07 pm

Am I the first person to watch? Does anyone still care?

I'm in the middle of watching today's double run. The first episode had a woman from Rochester, NY. The second episode has an actual MAWG from Massachusetts (actually more of an OWG) My impressions so far:

Terry Crews yells and screams a lot, but otherwise seems okay. He doesn't try to be funny, at least not as much as Cedric did. Too soon to tell whether he's an improvement or not.

The questions seem MUCH easier than last year. Small sample size, so it's too early to know for sure. The woman seemed fairly smart, except she thought the capital of Qatar is Qatar City and that Zanzibar is the capital of Madagascar.

The old guy told a story about almost killing himself with a gun when he was 8.

The woman brought a friend as her +1 who at least knew that Quito was the capital of Ecuador, but didn't help enough to answer the question. The man brought his wife of 37 years, which might not have been the best strategic choice, but they collectively guessed the right answer.

The first episode ended with the familiar single question format for an audience member.

Now the OWG is gone and there's time for another contestant. It's a young woman named Raven from Brooklyn. She says she's 22. Her first question is about emoticons. She again says she's 22.

Raven doesn't seem like Mensa material. She sees an easy science question and calls for her +1, who is her best friend, Shayna. They babble to no avail and decide to ask the audience. The audience has no clue, but Raven goes with their answer anyway and she is out of here. End of show.

I rather enjoyed this review. I gotta remember that if I EVER get picked for anything I'll mention my age rrepeatedly as an excuse for stupid. Snort.
Well, then

Is she proud that she can count that high?

Both new episodes aired in my market as well. Terry was all right although he needed to take it down a notch in spots.

For the audience member question was that the next one the contestant would have seen? That's how the Thousandaire portion was handled last season? I speed through a lot and miss things said. To me it seemed too easy and would not have been valued correctly.

Question count

1st episode: 12 counting the audience one for 1K
2nd ep: 8

I've seen that baby-crying imitation with other game show players. I guess contestant coordinators like it. Raven from the 2nd episode had one of those wide mouth smiles that the camera must like. Emoticons and young singers? No problem. She was on her way. Uh oh, science. Problem. Time to cash in the lifelines.
