August Lyrically Speaking Day 17: Tough Tuesday

#1 Post by mrkelley23 » Tue Aug 26, 2014 4:45 am

August Lyrically Speaking Day 17 – Tough Tuesday.

Welcome to the last edition of Tough Tuesday for this game of Lyrically Speaking. We’ll try yet another variation this week. The first round will be open until 6AM Central on Wednesday morning. In that thread, you should post all of your song guesses, and a guess at the theme, if you wish. On Wednesday, I will open a new thread for theme guesses. As soon as that thread is open, you may go back and read others’ song guess, and even their guesses at the theme, if they had any. You may then make a second guess at the theme, for a reduced bonus. As usual, you get one point for a correct title, one point for artist. If you manage to get the theme on the first day, it will be worth ten points. If you get it on the second day, it will be worth five points. There will be a krox bonus on the second day for an additional two points – give me a song with artist that matches the theme for that bonus. I’ll be sure to remind you at the bottom of that thread. :)

1. Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream,
Think I'll buy me a football team

2. I was talking to an Eskimo,
Said he was hopping for a fall of snow,
When up popped a sea lion ready to go.
Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go

3. God sends his spaceships to America, the beautiful
They land at six o'clock and there we are, the dutiful
Eating from TV trays, tuned into to Happy Days
Waiting for World War III while Jesus slaves

4. I heard about your lessons, but lessons are so cold.
I know about this school.
Little girl from cherry lane, how did you get so bold ?
How did you know that golden rule ?

5. Who is to blame in one country?
Never can get to the one
Dealin' in multiplication
And they still can't feed everyone

6. Where the image breaks down
Will you visit me please
If I open my door

7. It don't matter what you wear
They're checking out your savior faire
And it don't matter what you do
'Cause everything looks good on you

8. It comes down to reality
And it's fine with me 'cause I've let it slide
Don't care if it's Chinatown or on Riverside
I don't have any reasons

9. Peace, love and understanding it all
There must be some place for these things today
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord knows there’s got to be a better way

10. Now and then I call your name
And suddenly a face appears.
But it's just a crazy game
And it ends,
It ends in tears.

11. Blonde haired, good looking trying to get me hooked
Wants me to marry, settle down and get a home and write a book

12. Up a like a rocket ship,
Down a like a roller coaster,
Fast a like a loop the loop
And a round a like a merry go round.

This thread is now closed for theme guesses. It is still open for song guesses, in case some of our late players haven't gotten here yet. But make your theme guesses in the other thread, entitled ALS Day 17 Tough Tuesday second day.

They're checking out your savoir faire
And it don't matter what you do
'Cause everything looks good on you

Dunno, but I fixed your French...

.

Thank you. I missed it when I was proofreading. Also too lazy to try to find the ASCII code for the circumflex.

10. Now and then I call your name

But it's just a crazy game
And it ends,
It ends in tears.

11. Blonde haired, good looking trying to get me hooked
Wants me to marry, settle down and get a home and write a book

Theme?

Theme: US Cabinet Departments. I am so pissed that I unintentionally copied one of lb's games. That was one of my biggest fears when taking on this game. He's had so many, and so many of them just outstanding. At least I have the defense of not having played this one when he did it.

Money – Pink Floyd -- Treasury
Junior’s Farm – Paul McCartney and Wings -- Agriculture
Lawyers in Love – Jackson Browne -- Attorney General
Hot for Teacher – Van Halen -- Education
Electric Avenue – Eddy Grant -- Energy
Cars – Gary Numan -- Transportation
Supermodel (You better Work) – RuPaul -- Labor
New York State of Mind – Billy Joel -- State
War – Edwin Starr or Bruce Springsteen -- Defense
A House is not a Home – Dionne Warwick -- Housing and Human Services
Too much Monkey Business – Elvis Presley -- Commerce
Palisades Park – Freddy Cannon -- Interior

Points:

TLITF -- 18
esto -- 16
mntetn -- 4
melly -- 17
Hotseat -- 3
AD -- 8
Fireball -- 18
elwood -- 8
Sprots -- 6
Marley -- 0
TBone -- 20
krox -- 10
Frank -- 12
lb13 -- 10 + 7 = 17
Shameless -- 12
Vandal -- 8

Well, I don't know if my game was that outstanding... I recall it being one of my weaker games in that season. And unless you're George Harrison, I don't think you can copy a game you didn't know existed, so no worries! I had one of my best game ideas blatantly copied without credit by another meister before.... now that was pissed off worthy!

I've done that kind of thing before -- not here, but elsewhere. It's funny how your brain can convince you that you've come up with an original idea, when all you're doing is "rediscovering" something. I've never intentionally stolen something, no matter how much I joke about it as a teacher, but I've sure reproduced stuff that I didn't remember having seen before. That's what I was afraid I did here, so thank you for posting the link to the original thread so I could put my mind at ease.
