TEN!

#1 Post by Vandal » Wed Aug 27, 2014 1:22 pm

No, not that silly and unreliable bored game. It's how many books I've written.

Yes, I just typed THE END for the tenth time. Another middle grade story complete.

This one took me over ten months to complete with all the rounds of editing for Haney Field and Lizzie and a re-write of Running On Empty interfering along the way.

Working title is Devin Drake: The World’s Worst Magician (Ever), but it will likely be changed.

The book is about a young magician who uses magic to fight bullying at his middle school. Along the way, he manages to get Ehrich Weiss (young Harry Houdini) stuck in his head and befriend his favorite magician, The Great Tangredi.

There are other BB cameos in this one and probably more to come when I go through it again.

I'm not going to start any new projects until I get the four books not under contract ready to roll. That could take some time.

Unless, of course, I get what we call an SNI (shiny new idea) and I have no choice but to feed it!

Of course now you rewrite, rewrite, and rewrite.

That is a nice, round number! Congrats.

That's awesome!

On a related not, I've been keeping this under wraps for a couple of months, but I think I can go ahead and let the cat out of the bag. In my spare time, I've been writing my first book. It's a semi-biographical novel about some of the people I've known here in Ohio for years (and I have a cameo in it). I don't have an official title for it. I'm calling it Canoe right now. The title is allegorical, but it may be too inside. I may change it later.

I've written only 70 pages of it so far, so don't expect to find it on the shelves any time soon. By the end of 2015, though, we might have another published author on the Bored. And I have every intention of being a literary one-hit wonder like Harper Lee or John Kennedy Toole. I don't want the pressure of writing a second book. :)
