#1 Post by a1mamacat » Mon Aug 11, 2014 10:37 pm

our seats are on the 1st base line, just at the start of the outfield, lower level, aisle seats.

Staying at the Fairmont Olympic, not the Silver (sold out). We have our Baptista Jerseys, our hats, and out Canada Flags.

Hope we make it out alive

MLB Network has talked a bit about the pilgrimage of Canadian fans who come down to Seattle when the Blue Jays play there. Harold Reynolds, who played with the Mariners back in the 80's, noted that it's been going on even since his days with the club. Then Eric Byrnes went nuts wondering why people in southwest Canada were rooting for a team 2,000 miles away when there was a perfectly good Major League club less than 200 miles south of them! He pulled a Sprotsie and wondered why the border patrol was letting all these people with Baptista.... er, Bautista jerseys into the country!

Probably because the available jersey's in BC are all either Bautista or Lawrie LOL.

Had an awesome trip, (game sucked lol) and am home, exhausted and totally fried. There was an entire sea of Jayswear in Seattle, and the merchants, restauranteurs and cabbies are all so welcoming

I'm glad you enjoyed your pilgrimage.

I'm sure that when the Blue Jays play in Detroit there is also a Canadian invasion, only from the south. (Would someone in Windsor, Ontario be a Tigers fan or a Jays fan? Red Wings or Maple Leafs? I'm sure there are some of both.)

As for people in British Columbia being fans of the Jays instead of the Mariners I'm sure patriotism trumps geography. People root for teams hundreds of miles away just because they are in the same state, which I have never believed in. Well, I can understand someone in downstate Illinois being a fan of the Chicago teams because if it weren't for Chicago then Illinois would just be another Iowa.

Will be watching the Jays next Tuesday. Will not be cheering for them, though. :P

We will have excellent seats - field level, just a couple sections left of home plate. Except that I am sure that damn screen will be in front of us...

I learned this in 2001 when Saucy gave me a Blue Jays cap, rather than a Mariners cap, during my visit to the area.

LOL I lived in Toronto for 15 years, and was a full on Jays supporter. No way would I change just because I moved. I also was trying to assimilate you
