Interesting, too, that your mother didn't rate her own name in the reward poster. She was merely "wife".

We're not that far removed from those times. I still remember a pair of signs I saw in Heathrow in the mid-1980s at Passport Control (aka "Customs"). It directed two lines -- "Men" and "Women and Other Dependents."
