Thoughts and prayers please

#1 Post by ksbirchtree » Sat Jul 05, 2014 6:39 pm

The assisted living home where my 96 year old mother lived burned down last night. All 21 residents make it out safely, and there were no injuries. Mom is staying with my sister right now, but we need to find her another place to live. Unfortunately, we don't have many options in this town, so she may have to go out-of-town which will be hard.

I don't know if this pic will come through, but that's my Mom standing with the Sheriff's officer. Cause of fire was "improper disposal of fireworks."

Please remember my Mom and family as we work through this. We are just so thankful that she is safe!

The nursing home improperly disposed of them or someone else did? :(

Good luck.

Oh Christy! How scary!

Sending thoughts and prayers her way.

I would gather they also lost any possesions they had in the home.

Are quilts needed?

Because that is what quilters do at times like these.

How horrible. Thoughts and prayers with all of them. Your mom looks mighty awesome for 96 and considering the circumstances.

How scary for her! So glad everyone got out okay. <hugs>

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

The nursing home had a small fireworks display and afterward whoever did the clean-up didn't make sure everything was out. They put the fireworks into a plastic garbage can next to the building which smoldered and caught the siding on fire, which moved up into the attic.

I don't know if quilts are needed right now..... I might talk with the administration and see if that would help.

We moved Mom to a nursing home in a small town 20 miles away. She didn't seem to mind.... it's probably bothering us (sisters) more than her. She just went back to her old routine.

The clean-up people brought all of her stuff out of her apartment and we were able to sort through it. Some was too wet/damaged to save, but we got the important stuff like tables and clocks that my Dad made, and pictures that my sisters had done.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers! I think we'll make it!
