Major announcement of the Granny sort of thing

#1 Post by silvercamaro » Sat May 24, 2014 12:48 pm

On Friday, I will drive to Tulsa to see the first dance recital (ballet and tap) of the Beautiful Isabella, age 6. I am giving myself major plaudits for having raised her father to recognize the importance of such things and for inviting me.

I don't care if it turns out she has two -- or even three -- left feet, although I'm betting I will think she is wonderful no matter what. Nor do I care deeply if she continues to dance for any extended period, as I know she also is a heck of a soccer and softball player, so she will face a variety of choices down the road.

I had a co-worker, once upon a time, who didn't want to go (though of course they were going) to their grandkid's dance recital because "(sniff) those kids are not real ballet dancers". I was aghast. "She's your granddaughter!". "But she's not real ballet dancer". (She was, like your grandaughter, about 6.)

I'm glad you got the invite & really want to go.

Isabella is so very lucky to have acquired a daddy who knows what is important, and even more, that she has also acquired a "granny" who knows that love is the most important tie between family.

Kennedy, age 4, has her first dance recital on Sunday, May 31. Three routines. Can't wait! I know Isabella will be a fabulous dancer.

Last Saturday I hurried back from a bridge tournament about 100 miles away so I could see Sparky's middle school musical. He wasn't a performer. He decided he wanted to work tech for this show, so I got to see him control the lights. --Bob

What fun!

Of course she will be fabu in all she does.

And no reason she cannot keep up with dance as well as sport. We all know that cross training is important and the poise and balance of dance may well help her in any sport.

Enjoy and try not to wear anything with buttons. Too embarrassing when you bust them.

:D
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

SC and Kay -- don't forget the bouquet of flowers for your little prima ballerinas. :)

Recital on Saturday (31st) here. Youngest has 2 dances in Children's show. Lil' Bit has 2 in Children's show, plays a Dew Fairy in one-act production of "Hansel and Gretel", and then three dances in big show. (H & G is first part of big show). The Boy is a soloist as a Goblin, and then seven other dances in big show (including 2 solos). Older two will be happy when Sunday comes. Youngest will be sad.

The Boy has one whole week off of dance before he starts his pre-professional summer intensive training. Lil' Bit has two different weeklong camps this summer, three weeks of dance training, plus two months of tumbling class with friends. Youngest has swimming, dance, and some actual vacation time. LOL!

Your kids have a busy summer planned!

Is The Boy considering a professional career in dancing? And--in the theme of Bored youngsters who are getting too old to be believed--how old is he, now?

I am jealous. I adore children's dance recitals - I'm reluctant to go if I don't know any of the kids. I wish I lived close enough to come watch with y'all.

He will in 8th Grade next year. I(n the span of a year, he also has shot up to 5'5", so he may have a good shot of being the tallest child.)

Yes, he currently is considering the possibility of professional ballet (likely after college). He was selected to join Ballet Nebraska's second company, BN II, which is "a select group of highly motivated pre-professional dance students training for future professional careers or advanced dance studies." It is 8 high school girls and my son. He will be studying at the Kansas City Ballet for 5 weeks this summer, plus one week with Ballet Nebraska.
