The Ultimate QoD Challenge -- Week 6, Wednesday
"4-by-4"
I'm sure that all of you have deliberately forgotten these during my vacation. The grids!
As you know, you're trying to find four groups of four in each grid. Watch out for the red herring categories and the answers that can fit into more than one category. More often than not, each grid has only one perfect solution. Each clue may be used only once. 4 points for a valid foursome with its category, 4 points if you can achieve perfection on one grid, and 20 points if you can achieve perfection on both grids.
Answers are due by Thursday 5/22 at 4 PM EDT.
Grid 1:
ANGEL | CHOCOLATE | CUP | FROZEN
GLOVE | HOLIDAY | HORSE | HUMOR
ICE | JEWELRY | MASK | MUSIC
PAD | SECRET | SIDE | SKATE
Grid 2:
ASS | BLADE | BOOTY | BUTT
GAD | HANGER | HOUSE | KNAVE
MANSERVANT | MINOR | OLIVER | OX
PLATE | QUARTER | RUMP | SPANKER

Re: The Ultimate QoD Challenge -- Week 6, Wednesday
Grid 1 seemed to be easier than Grid 2, even though no category was really obvious in Grid 1.
Grid 1:
ANGEL | CHOCOLATE | CUP | FROZEN
GLOVE | HOLIDAY | HORSE | HUMOR
ICE | JEWELRY | MASK | MUSIC
PAD | SECRET | SIDE | SKATE
1. GLOVE | ICE | JEWELRY | MUSIC
_____ box.
2. ANGEL | FROZEN | HOLIDAY | SECRET
Bob J had the right four clues together. He just couldn't figure out what they had in common.
Madonna songs. Music was a distractor.
3. CHOCOLATE | HORSE | HUMOR | SIDE
Dark _____. Angel and Secret were distractors.
4. CUP | MASK | PAD | SKATE
Things a hockey player wears. Glove was a distractor.
Grid 2:
ASS | BLADE | BOOTY | BUTT
GAD | HANGER | HOUSE | KNAVE
MANSERVANT | MINOR | OLIVER | OX
PLATE | QUARTER | RUMP | SPANKER
You probably remember "manservant" from the plurals question a couple of weeks back, but I don't think that was the word in this grid on which everybody was fixated. We'll get that word out of the way first.
1. ASS | HOUSE | MANSERVANT | OX
Things you shouldn't covet according to the Tenth Commandment. "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ASS, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's." (Exodus 20:17) I was hoping that all of you would see the word ASS and think that there was no way I would use the word ASS unless it was referring to a donkey. You didn't think that the word ASS would mean anything else, did you? Am I deliberately repeating the word ASS to exploit a biblical loophole and to irritate my haters? You bet your sweet donkey I am!
2. BUTT | GAD | MINOR | OLIVER
Former contributors of "The Daily Show". Sameer Butt, Josh Gad, Jerry Minor, and the brilliant John Oliver.
3. BLADE | HANGER | PLATE | RUMP
Cuts of beef/steak. Butt was a distractor.
4. BOOTY | KNAVE | QUARTER | SPANKER
Pirate slang words. Quarter is giving somebody mercy and a spanker is a flag.
5/19 + 5/20 + 5/21 Scores (9 participants)
Bob Juch - 14 + 20 + 12 = 46
ShamelessWeasel - 2 + 24 + 8 = 34
smilergrogan - 8 + 14 + 8 = 30
franktangredi - 6 + 6 + 8 = 20
