Just when you thought it was safe to go back on the WWTBAM Bored...

Yes, I had to drive through Gastonia on my way back from Charlotte on Saturday. No, I didn't drive around Gastonia to try to find the WGAS transmission tower.

But let's get back to business.

In case you've forgotten, I want to know specifically what the four things in each question have in common. 2 points for each correct connection.

Spoiler
1. BILLY KWAN / ROCKET J. SQUIRREL / BART SIMPSON / ALBERT NOBBS

Pop hits whose melodies were based on classical music themes.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

1. BILLY KWAN / ROCKET J. SQUIRREL / BART SIMPSON / ALBERT NOBBS

Male roles played by female actors. Billy Kwan was the man played by Oscar winner Linda Hunt in "The Year of Living Dangerously".

2. LENINGRAD / A GROOVY KIND OF LOVE / HELLO MUDDAH, HELLO FADDUH / ALL BY MYSELF

Pop songs based on classical music pieces. "All by Myself" was the giveaway on that one. I think most people know that Eric Carmen based his biggest hit off of a Rachmaninoff piano concerto.

3. ROSEODENDRON / BARCELONA MUSIC FESTIVAL / ITALIAN SPRING / VEGETABLES ON PASTA

Primavera.

4. 103 / 1435 / 4712 / 5774

The current year in non-Christian calendars. Juche/North Korean, Islamic, Chinese, and Hebrew years.

5. JOSEPH MCCARTHY / DAVID NIVEN / TAYLOR SWIFT / RAIDERS & JETS

People who were interrupted on live TV. McCarthy was interrupted by Joseph Welch, Niven was interrupted by a streaker at the Oscars, Swift was interrupted by Kanye West at the MTV VMAs, and the Raiders & Jets were interrupted by "Heidi".

6. PORTSMOUTH POINT / MALUKU / ZANZIBAR / GRENADA

They all were once called "Spice Islands".

7. JASON BOURNE / GERALD MCRANEY / RIVER / GREEK ALPHABET

Delta.

8. CRUISE / MANSION / WIDEN / READ

I thought this one would be a site-wide stumper, but smiler nailed it. They're all homophones of current U.S. senators. Ted Cruz, Joe Manchin, Ron Wyden, and Harry Reid.

9. WINEY WINE / ALLERGY CLUSTERS / FLAVONNAISE / CARPET: THE MUSICAL

Fictional sponsors of the computer game "You Don't Know Jack".

10. APOLINÈRE ENAMELED / BLIVET / PENROSE STAIRS / KLEIN BOTTLE

Impossible objects and shapes. You probably know the blivet better as the impossible three-pronged fork.
