The Ultimate QoD Challenge -- Week 4, Friday
The plural of "bet" is still "bets". Not "betantes".
Fat Chance bets
Bob Juch - 100% of 61 = 61
themanintheseersuckersuit - 100% of 43 = 43
jarnon - 50% of 37 = 18.5
franktangredi - 30% of 59 = 17.7
kroxquo - 19% of 35 = 6.65
Bob78164 - 10% of 35 = 3.5
ShamelessWeasel - 0% of 53 = 0
smilergrogan - i% of 52 = .52? -0.52?
"i" is not even a real number, so I'm still not quite sure how to treat that. Do I treat it as the square root of 1 or the negative square root of 1? If his bet is -0.52 and he gives the forfeit answer, does he receive points? You guys are certainly doing a good job of keeping me on my feet with these unique bet percentages.
Bob J and TMITSSS are pushing it all-in once again. Let's see who I can get mad with this question. This is actually a recycled question from one of my Facebook games many years ago. It was such a good question that it needs to be asked again.
The word "octopus" has two proper plural forms. Name one of them.
Your answer is due by Monday 5/5 at 4 PM EDT.

Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

The word "octopus" has two proper plural forms. Name one of them.
There is no way around this one. "Octopi" is not only wrong, it's wrong in three different languages. As mentioned before, Latin nouns that end in "-us" typically end in "-i" when pluralized. The word "octopus", however, didn't originally come from Latin. It's a modern Latin form of the Greek word for "eight feet". Since Greek-derived nouns don't follow that Latin "-us" to "-i" rule, the commonly used "octopi" is not proper. I did ask for proper plural form, not plural form accepted in modern English.
The two proper plural forms are octopuses and the very Greek and very rare octopodes. Don't you just love the English language?
That was unfortunate for Bob J, as he went with the obvious answer and struck out for the first time. He still has the overall lead, however. TMITSSS gave me a correct answer, so he doubled his points and won Week 4.
The 8-point bonus pot is split 7 ways this week.
Week 4 Scores
themanintheseersuckersuit - 2 + 9 + 0 + 32 + 43 (+ 1.14) = 87.14
jarnon - 1 + 4 + 0 + 32 + 18.5 (+ 1.14) = 56.64
ShamelessWeasel - 7 + 12 + 6 + 28 + 0 (+ 1.14) = 54.14
smilergrogan - 3 + 11 + 6 + 32 + 0 (+ 1.14) = 53.14
kroxquo - 1 + 6 + 0 + 28 + 6.65 (+ 1.14) = 42.79
franktangredi - 2 + 7 + 10 + 40 - 17.7 (+ 1.14) = 42.44
Bob78164 - 1 + 6 + 0 + 28 - 3.5 (+ 1.14) = 32.64
Bob Juch - 8 + 13 + 0 + 40 - 61 = 0
