DId they show any techniques for dealing with the dreaded tube of toothpaste?

I heard that this morning, and thought two things:

a) now they'll ban that on carry-on (I always figured it was part of the liquid stuff and kept it in the one-quart TSA bag)
b) what took them so long to figure that out? Toothpaste tubes have been used for some time in spy novels and such for everything from smuggled messages to carrying plastique.

a) now they'll ban that on carry-on (I always figured it was part of the liquid stuff and kept it in the one-quart TSA bag)
b) what took them so long to figure that out? Toothpaste tubes have been used for some time in spy novels and such for everything from smuggled messages to carrying plastique.
I think that I have watched enough episodes of 'Burn Notice" and paid attention when Michael Weston explained things that C4 or the most commom plastic explosives is no more explosive than the toothpaste in the tube without a detonator. In fact shooting a bullet at it won't set it off and neither will burning it

There are "binary" explosives: You mix two things together and they go BOOM. That doesn't require a detonator.
