Lyrically Speaking - 1/20/14

#1 Post by Gimme A Squiggly » Mon Jan 20, 2014 7:28 am

The 1990's were a very important decade for me... with my company exploding into one of the largest corporations in the world, LB coming to work for me, and of course my untimely death. The music of the 90's was pretty blah too, but that's what makes it so perfect for my ear-numbing CD's I play in my stores! Here are 12 songs from the decade of grunge and hip hop that appeared on last year's Summer Mecca CD... um, excuse me for a minute...

We need the electronics associate with the keys to the lockup case for a customer wanting Windows 95....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. This is a love attack
I know it went out but it's back
It's just like any fad retracts before impact
And just like fashion it's a passion for the with it and hip
If ya got the goods, they'll come and buy it just to stay in the clique

2. Sometimes you're crazy and you wonder why
I'm such a baby
'Cause the Dolphins make me cry

3. Now the fuzzy stare from not being there on a confusing morning week
Impaired my tribal lunar-speak
And of course you can't become if you only say what you would have done
So I missed a million miles of fun

4. Marry him your father will condone you
How ‘bout that now
You marry me, your father will disown you
He’ll eat his hat now

5. And I've been searching for something
Taken out of my soul
Something I would never lose
Something somebody stole

6. The chills that you spill up my back
keep me filled with satisfaction when we're done
satisfaction of what's to come

7. I want to be a lion
Everybody want to pass as cats
We all want to be big big stars
Yeah, but we got different reasons for that

8. she says it's cold outside and she hands me my raincoat
she's always woried about things like that
she says it's all gonna end and it might as well be my fault
and she only sleeps when its raining

9. Have I doubt, baby, when I'm alone
Love is a ring on the telephone
Love is an angel, disguised as lust
Here in our bed 'til the morning comes

10. Guys out hunting
And girls doing likewise
Honking at the honey
In front of you
With the light eyes

11. Well you`ve got your reasons
And you`ve got your lies
And you`ve got your manipulations
They cut me down to size

12. Who doesn`t know what I`m talking about
Who`s never left home, who`s never struck out
To find a dream and a life of their own
A place in the clouds, a foundation of stone

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist you would put on the Mecca CD to represent the 90's.

5 Point Bonus: Which of the songs above was the only song to appear on all three CD's Mecca created to play in its stores in 2013?

Ray of Light - Madonna Why? It was the first song I heard on an MP3 player, a Diamond Rio PMP300 player, which I eventually bought for about $180, I think. 32K of memory gave me around 12 songs of decent quality. A true 90's revolution in music. I still have it though I don't know if it still works.. I should go find it, put in a fresh battery and see what songs I have on it. :)

Gotta be 8. Most overplayed 90's song.

Well, if we don't want to upset the shoppers in the Housewares aisle, I'd go with something middle-of-the-road like "Breakfast At Tiffany's" by Deep Blue Something, but to me, one song stands out as representing the 90's, and that's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana. You decide if "cleanup in Housewares" means calling the paramedics to revive an old lady in cardiac arrest or not.

gotta go with Hootie (#2). Another one I seem to recall hearing on numerous occasions in Mecca.

Gimme A Squiggly
The 1990's were a very important decade for me... with my company exploding into one of the largest corporations in the world, LB coming to work for me, and of course my untimely death. You marry me, your father will disown you

Love is a ring on the telephone
Love is an angel, disguised as lust
Here in our bed 'til the morning comes
Because the Night - 10,000 Maniacs (Any artist who did this song was good enough, but obviously it was the 10K Maniacs version... and have I ever said before how much I can't stand Natalie Merchant?)

10. Guys out hunting
And girls doing likewise
Honking at the honey
In front of you
With the light eyes
Summertime - DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince (I Kroxed this in Krox's inaugural LS contest in 2009, and when it came time for the final all-Krox songs week, I literally guessed this song on everything that sounded like a rap song. I didn't know the lyrics then, but after hearing it every night for four months, I certainly know them now...)

JJC Points:

The JJC Points were handed out like Candy® in this game...

mrkelley gets 3 JJC points for The Wiz and for mentioning bipolar... a lot of my blog's followers have mental disorders (whether that says something about bloggers in general or me in particular is unclear), and one of them was ranting on their blog over the weekend about how a weatherman used the term "bipolar" to describe the seesaw temperatures they had been having, and how that absolutely pissed her off because it was belitting people who are actually bipolar. OK, whatever... anyway, that got you the extra JJCP for the bipolar mention!

Krox gets a supermax for being funny, and sharing a friend's wisdom about deafness and Celine Dion...

mntetn gets a JJC point for not spoilerizing his "answers"...

smiler gets a supermax for his tribute to the 90's...

frank gets a supermax for 2,000 maniacs X 5... I loved it!

BiT gets a supermax for Devil in a Blue Dress and for the personal Madonna trivia...

Saucy gets a supermax for being funny...

TBone gets 2 JJC points for the Presidential Seal and for old ladies succumbing at Mecca...

elwood gets 3 JJC points for being a huge fan of the 90's and for the sympathy (Just wait until next Monday!)...

Search gets a JJC point for the proverbial brick wall...

Jessie gets a supermax for her Barney love and the hairy pits...

melly gets a JJC point for Philly geography...
