I've been in the middle of major edits for the new book over the past week or so. The editor has been suggesting some major changes and it looks like we finally have it ready to go to the next round (copy edits). I had never heard of the editor, so I looked her up. Her name is Emma Walton Hamilton and she is a successful writer, having published over 23 books with her mother.

I have one of those >23 books. Received when I was in an Oprah audience for a viewing of Shrek II and then the show, whose guests were the real people who did the voices in the movie. Also received a soundtrack CD. Good times.

It's an odd set up since everything goes through the publisher. The chain goes author to publisher to editor to publisher to author, so I've never been in direct contact with her. She did rip the original story to pieces and gave direction on how to put it back together. Almost character was renamed, the timeline was modified, major scenes whacked and title removed. At the core, it's still my story (thankfully).

That's what a good editor does and she is proving to be quite a good one.

I looked up Tony Walton, because my narrow mind was surprised to hear about a straight man in that profession. The list of his achievements in IMDB is impressive. Wikipedia has a bit more on his personal life (accuracy not guaranteed):

Walton married his childhood sweetheart Julie Andrews in 1959, and the two had a daughter (Emma Katherine Walton Hamilton). Walton has said that he fell in love with Andrews when they were in their early teens and he saw her playing the egg in a theatre production of Humpty Dumpty. They divorced in 1967 but still remain close chums. Walton married Gen LeRoy in 1991. Daughter Emma Walton's godmother is actress and comedienne Carol Burnett, as well as the prima ballerina, Svetlana Beriosova. Emma's godfather is Vic Oliver.
