The National Board of Review awards tend to be more off the wall than even most critics' awards and they like to award obscure independent films.

Dern's situation is very unusual this year. He would probably have an excellent chance of winning a Best Supporting Actor Oscar, but he's being pushed for Best Actor, where he might not even get a nomination. There's already three pretty sure things in Redford, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Matthew McConnaughey, and DiCaprio and Tom Hanks have good shots as well.

Both Her and American Hustle are from Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures.

A lot of times, seeing the trailer will make me not want to see the movie. Not so with this one; I'm really looking forward to it, and I hope Emma Thompson wins the Academy Award. Wouldn't that be great, for Julie Andrews to win and Emma Thompson too?
