NaNoWriMo

#1 Post by danielh41 » Wed Oct 30, 2013 8:03 am

I started writing another novel a week or so ago, but I really have to make time to write with my schedule. I'm about 4000 words into it, but I thought I might try the November Novel Writing month challenge (writing 50,000 words in 30 days) to give myself some motivation. I went to nanowrimo.org and created a profile for myself (http://nanowrimo.org/participants/danielh1966). Is anyone else here doing this? I will feel really good if I come out of November with 55,000 words (since I can't count my October word totals)...

I know many writers who do this every year. It is a daunting task and I admire anyone who wants to give it a shot.

My approach is more steady and slow, so I've never felt the need for speed.

Good luck!

My son is going to try, as a project for school, but it sounds like the pace he plans will get him 20,000 words by the end of the month. --Bob

20K is awesome. That's almost half a book for me.

If he can eventually type THE END it becomes even more awesome.

I decided to take a break from writing today and tomorrow in anticipation of a 50,000 word month of November. I'm currently 570 pages into Stephen King's 11/22/63, and I plan on finishing that tomorrow so I won't be distracted by reading anything while I try to write so much...

I've been intrigued by this idea. I think I've seen that people can participate with a partner. (That is, write the novel together.) That's probably what I'd do.

Good luck! Our town library is sponsoring the event locally, offering space, coffee and encouragement. Wish I had an idea for a novel.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

My novel is about two nude models who meet when they pose for an art class together and then become involved in an unconventional anti-abortion protest. So it's not far from my own life...

My two day word total is 4000 now. So I'm on a pace for 60,000.

It looks like my son is on about the same pace, at least for the time being. --Bob

Through six days, I'm at just over 12,000 for the month. I'm still on a pace for 60,000.

It's great that you are staying the course. NaNoWriMo is a literary marathon complete with its own version of Heartbreak Hill later in the month.

Be strong and write on!

I've been taking my laptop to lunch with me almost every day this month and writing in the evenings. I passed the 44,000 word mark at lunch today, so I'm on a pace to write just over 60,000 words for November. I don't know how long this novel will wind up being, but it feels good to be writing again. I'll probably write during lunch at least three days a week even after November is over.

Awesome, Daniel. Most NaNo-ers have petered out by now.

The novel is over 54,000 words now, and my November Nano total just passed 50,000. I'm not anywhere near finished with the novel though. It may hit 100,000 by the time I'm able to type "The End."

OK, I think I'm done writing for the night. This being the last day of November, my official NaNo word count for the month is 60,076. And the novel isn't anywhere near done yet.

I was pretty consistent in writing every day during November (although I wasn't able to write much on Thanksgiving Day). I'm still writing. The novel is approaching 67,000 words, and I'm not anywhere near the end. It may hit 100K before I get there. Then the real work will begin...

Congratulations, Daniel. Very impressive.
