At BoltBus. The only one of the cheap buses to NYC & other east coast points that hasn't caught fire/tipped over yet.
I often ride standby, which doesn't get you any points (does get you on the bus for $25.00 no matter what the actual fare was, less or more, though). But when you book the trip on-line or via phone in your own name, you get 1 point/each leg of trip.
So I finally had enough points for a free trip. Well, a free leg of a trip. Actually, I had enough points this summer, but because of the way their web site hides the info, didn't realize it.
I have to come back early from Thanksgiving because I have a doctor's appt the next day. I could have tried to move it but it probably isn't very moveable, considering how the doctor books up. And it's a follow-up from the cancer operation, so I don't want to move it too far down the road anyway.
This put me in the return-trip market where the prices were off the map. The usual price when I usually go is $17-$25. For the still-weekend day before, maybe $25-$35. But because this is TG weekend, it is $75.00. Brrrr.
So I thought I'd book my return-trip before my trip down, just to see if I could redeem my free trip on this $75.00 ride. They let me! I almost didn't believe it. Every other mode of transportation of which I know would have said “sorry, sucker. Holiday blackout.”
Well, even though I hate that they’re moving the drop-off/pickup site to the Javits center, which isn’t as convenient to me as where it was (Penn Station, 3 long blocks away), I love them for letting me redeem this free ride for this weekend. At that price.
Boy, I'm impressed.

Followup on this is I did call the Dr.'s office just to see if I could get an appt "soon after" & found out, as I suspected, that there were no new openings 'til Feb. So I'm staying with "situation as is".
