Demand for Rockies WS tix crashes system

#1 Post by nitrah55 » Mon Oct 22, 2007 2:58 pm

http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/sports/ ... ckies.html

The Rockies had originally planned to sell the roughly 20,000 seats available for each of the 3 WS games at Coors Field at the ballpark, some ticket outlets and online. Then, they decided to only sell online, as it would be "more fair."

There were over 9 million hits to the site. People were lined up outside the Denver Public Library to use the public access computers. After two hours, the site crashed.

In the words of our eminent colleague, Go Rockies!

Had the Indians pulled out the ALCS, I may have rooted that way, but since they didn't, I'll say:

GO ROCKIES!!!

Okay, how does one change the freaking size?

The pull down menu doesn't do anything, and the code it says to use doesn't work either.

Gee didn't the Riockies know they were playing in the World Series, why did they wait until today to put tickets on sale? Did they think Rockies fans could not have sold out? I bet the Fenway park ticket office will not have this problem.

That's because there are no such thing as extra tickets to the tiny stadium known as Fenway. They had a lottery for series tickets (all three) when the Bosox made the playoffs. One of GW's co-workers got the 2nd game of the World Series, and is now thrilled that the tickets are good. He's already requested Friday off to recover.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

And how many of those hits were ticket "brokers" (read: scalpers) who will resell them for far more than face value?

Doesn't change my comment about waiting until today and as a matter of fact the available seats in Fenway were sold using an internet lottery system you signed up and if your name was drawn you got to buy 2 tickets. When did you sign up by Oct 12, when did you know if you could get tickets Oct 15. They didn't even know if there would be a game. Also people can line up starting 5 hours before game time for last minute seats going on sale 2 hours before game time.

I don't know exactly how to describe it, but "fair" would not be in the mix.

[ size = 20 ]GO ROCKIES!!![ / size ] I added spaces.

GO ROCKIES!!! No spaces.

My bro-in-law is in a lottery for tix. He and my sister got to go to last Sunday's game. He works for the State of WY tourism and there is some link to sponsors and advertisers. I told my sister if she gets tickets, she could sell them and buy me a very nice Christmas gift. She laughed at me.

It wasn't the people trying to get tickets who crashed the server; it was a distributed denial-of-service attack. We'll see in an hour and a half if things work now.
