Below is a list of 16 weapons. For each, you must tell me if it is a type of gun, sword, bow, or polearm. Ready... aim... FIRE!
OK, I'm gonna try my best to describe and distinguish each of these weapons.
1. Arbalest -
a crossbow with a bow made out of steel instead of wood
2. Blunderbuss -
a rifle with a barrel that is flared like the bell of a trumpet
3. Gladius -
a short sword, such as one that gladiators used
4. Spetum -
a spear (pole) with two or three short blades protruding from the base of the spearhead
5. Yumi -
a long bow made of bamboo
6. Falchion -
a sword with a blade shaped somewhat like a trapezoid
7. Voulge -
a pole mounted with a rectangular or trapezoidal blade
8. Katana -
a long sword with a slightly curved blade
9. Derringer -
a pocket pistol
10. Chu-ko-nu -
a repeating crossbow
11. Flamberge -
a long sword with a blade shaped to resemble flames (hence the name)
12. Musketoon -
a rifle with a shorter barrel than a musket
13. Halberd -
a pole mounted with a rounded axe blade and featuring a point protruding opposite the blade (I posted a picture of this weapon earlier this week. -- viewtopic.php?p=44762)
14. Flyssa -
a short sword with a thin, narrow blade
15. Partisan -
a pole mounted with two rounded axe blades
BONUS
Yataghan -
a sword with an S-shaped blade
Believe it or not, Greyhound Dude's high scoring streak has been broken. 28 was respectable, but four people went higher... including Mr. Kelley, who got a perfect score.
I sure wish I could give bonus points for Annie's semi-successful method of reasoning...

The credit for my score goes to Gary Gygax.
But I guess I need a refresher course about crossbows. (Very few D&D characters use crossbows, since the rate of fire is inferior to regular bows.)

Not any more - in the current iteration (version 3.5) both weapons have a ROF of 1 per round, although one can get feats that allow for a more rapid ROF.

My D&D group decided not to transition to version 3.5. We won't be spending our money on 4.0, either.
