I suppose he chose B because it rhymed. But, as Meredith pointed out afterward, the reason why "at high tide" was the right answer was because it's hard to dig for clams then.

I didn't realize why Brandon chose what he did on the last question until later... I hadn't even considered the rhyme. Which made that sort of a distractor, but what the hell was he doing diving headfirst into a $50,000 wild-ass guess?

He risked a bit less than $30,000 to gain (a) a bit more than $30,000, and (b) the opportunity to see the $100,000 question. It's a pretty reasonable gamble if you think you have a clue. Of course, I do wish he'd taken a little more time to consider all of the possible answers, but it seemed like he was pretty locked into his choice. --Bob
