Beer Can Chicken Insurrection
Jeff stuffed three chickens with beer cans for grilling tonight, after brining for four hours in apple juice and kosher salt.
When we went out to turn them around to cook the fat part of their bodies each one slipped down, fell off of their can, discharged their onions and were obstinate. I, of course, started laughing til I cried, holding the flashlight, trying to help, like. Sorta.
He flipped the cans out and propped the chickens up against one another, the embers went out and we'll have chickens for breakfast.
It was very entertaining.

I have a couple of comments. Did you know that you can buy stands for beer can chicken? You still put the can of beer up the wazoo but the bird sits on a stand. They sell here for about 10 bucks.
As for the word grill..........ahhh I'm waxing nostalgic here. There is a mound of snow out on the deck that I think contains a BBQ but I haven't seen it since November. As for when we may locate it, who knows - we have another 25-35 cm coming overnight and tomorrow. We have officially run out of space for the damn stuff!
Even though we had a one week break in Puerto Vallarta, I'm still nearly ready to scream.

I thought we had some stands, but I guess I was thinking of something else, because all we did today was the actual can thing. It doesn't work so well...

Jeff told me that he was in San Diego at a medical conference. Why is he with you?Beebs52 wrote:Jeff stuffed three chickens with beer cans for grilling tonight, after brining for four hours in apple juice and kosher salt.

I did retrieve the chickens when FNGD went bust. They were still not cooked through. So I cooked'em in the oven for a bit and then decided to fuggedaboudit, popped them in the fridge and deal with them today.

Okay, you get a roasting chicken and rub it with a bunch of spices - I can post the recipe if needed. You then get a tall beer can and dump about 3/4 out (it can be dumped wherever it would do the most good). Place the chicken over the can and set it in a pie plate over a grill. Grill for 25 hours til the damn thing is cooked through.
The beer can is not very steady so that's why the stands work much better.

You are so correct. Beer cans are highly ineffective, though certainly more fun than stands. Unless it's the middle of the night and the chickens have thwarted whatever plans you had of actually eating them.ontellen wrote:Okay, you get a roasting chicken and rub it with a bunch of spices - I can post the recipe if needed.
