I like to think I'm "up on this sort of stuff", & I've never heard of pork-cat syndrome in my life. Well, I'm glad I don't eat

What it means is that if you're allergic to pork you may be allergic to cats as well, due to the same antibody.

Ease off. This is still a game show. Emphasis on game. Playing. Having fun. That's what makes them enjoyable to watch. No wonder you and Marley and others don't seem to like the show anymore. Your perspective is completely twisted from most people's on the show, and I'd wager at home. It's one thing to say that game play gets overwhelmed by all the pleasantness and gimmickry. It's another to say that the game play should be overwhelming everything else. That's a horrible thing to say.

You emphasized the correct word - game. BAM is a game. And the goal of any game is to win (or do well). It's nice if someone can have fun along the way, but the emphasis should be on someone trying to answer the questions, advance through the stack and get to the $1 million. As I look at it, the "fun stuff" is a distraction from this basic objective.

Having said that, you misunderstand me if you think I don't like the show. If I didn't like it I wouldn't watch it. But it is not the same show that debuted in November 1999 - both in the way that one qualifies to be on the show and in the way the hosts have approached it. Regis had fun - heck, I had fun when I was on the show in 2000 - but there was no doubt that the primary purpose of the game show was the game, not the peripheral elements (chatting up the contestant). Clearly Meredith (and presumably TPTB) have chosen to emphasize the "fun" element, and the contestant selection process reflects that. Look at it this way - do you really think that J! would be as much "fun" to watch if Meredith was the host and spending more time talking to the contestants than going through the board?
