I wonder which distractor was giving him trouble? My bet is that he didn't know who John Muir was.

Where else have I seen this question recently? Perhaps in a QoD?

I dunno, I kinda like the idea of "wireful" to describe a location with too many wires.

Evidently the transcriptionist didn't know the answer, either.

$25K - ????
I might have gone with "bed" for the same reason. Turns out it's the French word for "couch" (sofa).

Did you really find this rejoinder to be so witty and amusing that you (a) actually laughed out loud, and (b) couldn't resist sharing it with the rest of us?

Yes, but evidently I was wrong.

Andrew does not know and walks away with 16K.
After the run-up in the bantering, it's too bad he didn't call the team of teachers at his school. For those who didn't see the show, he said they had prepared to issue a "Code Vieira" announcement on the school intercom, which was the signal for a group of teachers to gather for the PAF call. And, presumably, they had to do that as soon as the "in the Hot Seat" call arrived, since there's no time to do so when the real PAF call comes. But Justin was outside this school team.

OTOH, we've seen that team efforts over a speakerphone (or having one PAF repeat the Q&A to the others) can be a challenge, given the time constraints. This question--derivation of "canape"--at least had the advantage of brevity.

Doesn't seem like you're guilty of smack-down-worthy activities that often, ear. If ever!

Oh, there's that little dispute over Nihil obstat®...

I'm guessing he has been living under a rock. Jeez.
