DSW is my friend

#1 Post by Bixby17 » Fri Feb 15, 2008 7:28 pm

Found these Tahari shoes for 80% off. The 80% number is the holy grail of sale discounts at DSW. And used my birthday coupon.

The picture is not as cute as they are in reality:

$11.25 with tax. Almost free!!!! Platform pumps are comfy and make you very very tall.

Well, heck, even I could be almost tall in those shoes. Of course, I couldn't walk in them, but I wouldn't be considered short. 8)

Seriously they are very attractive. I have a similar pair (with a lower heel) I've just about worn out. They are perfect with my jeans and when I travel as they are very comfortable. I wish I could find another pair just like them. They are Antonio Melani.

Did you people who can walk in such heels learn that as youngsters or is it in your genes and not in mine?

Those shoes look tall, but when there is a platform in the front, they don't feel as tall.

They are taxi shoes. The sort of shoes you wear when you are just walking to from the taxi to inside the restaurant.

I got good at walking in high heels because I worked as a cocktail waitress to help pay for college and law school. We had to wear at least 3 inch heels. Working in heels is hard. For the first couple of weeks, you climb in bed and your calves just start cramping up on you. After a while, you get used to it--it helps to have particularly comfortable heels with inserts in the front to cushion.

So, just walking from the car and back in tall shoes is not so hard. Maybe standing around a few hours at a party would be a little harder. Anything more than that, I have specific heels that I wear that I know I can do that in.

I find it easier to walk in these shoes than some ballet flats with no support. I bought some I'm going to resell--they look pretty but they hit my feet in the wrong place and don't have enough support.

Back in my younger, thinner days I could wear pretty, tall spikes with the best of 'em. Now, especially since the broken foot 2 years ago -- probably never again. But my solution has been to start buying pretty, dressy wedges. I'm getting a nice little collection going!

Here are the shoes I wore for the wedding vow renewal last week:

And they were on clearance -- at Payless! -- for a whole $7.00! I think the "Dr. Scholls For Her" insoles I put in 'em cost about that much

I used to run around in little ballet flats & Chinese shoes when I was a young'un too. A case of plantar fasciitis (ouch!) some years ago taught me that arch support is my friend. Nowadays I mostly wear Okabashis around the house & in the summer; good supportive tennis shoes or Crocs to work, and wedges for dress-up stuff.

My Leah (21) can rock the spikes, and DSW is definitely her friend! We call her Imelda. Fortunately she works in retail & gets nice discounts. Karen, age 18, not a shoe maven -- usually just wears tennies & borrows a pair from Leah if she needs something for a special occasion.

I always look like my knees won't bend or something when I try to walk in those high heels. I even took it on once, tried and tried and I never made it look any different.

2 inches are the highest I can pull off - even if it is just to a cab.
