Actually she didn't hold onto it. She closed the box with hope still inside, but then reopened it so that the world would have hope.

Meredith said she remembered it well, but it's doubtful that she saw it. It was only run once (like the Macintosh ad). It shows up later, of course, but the campaign only used it the one time.
