Brian is far too young to remember Little House on the Prairie.

A successful way of saying he wants to save the money. Would that answer work for a MAWG thinking about playing for his OWG future self? Not likely....

Bullshit! It's still a book and the TV show still runs several times a day.

By this logic, he is only responsible for knowing about events from the last 12 or 13 years?
A child of five would understand this. Send someone to fetch a child of five.

The question says absolutely nothing about Little House on the Prairie. I'm frankly surprised that Marley of all people would think that somebody should only know an author because of some tv show. Wilder's books were written back in the 30s, so does that mean that anybody under the age of 80 would be too young to know the answer to this question based strictly on her writing?

What if the question concerned the Edgar Allan Poe Awards? Would he still get a pass for being too young to remember that Vincent Price movie?

Uh, oh, cue the ominous organ music. I told elwing that this was going to end badly because they talked about Brian being a trivia buff.

At least he didn't say that Hannibal used llamas. But seriously, he's the assistant director of the National History Bowl and he doesn't know this??? Looks like 25-year old Brian is going to be sadly disappointed in his 18-year old self.

Okay, Estonut and Fanny have raked me over the coals. Anyone else want to join in?

Although I failed to explicitly state all the provisos, restrictions, reservations, implications, etc., my one line statement was meant to be a simple observation: When Little House was a primetime network TV show, there would have been far more general familiarity with who Laura Ingalls was and what kind of stories she wrote. I admit that her books are still in print and the show is still available on DVD and may air as repeats on various cable channels (the particular details of which I don't know). I was not making a judgement about what Brian ought to have known. I was only expressing an opinion that he was less likely to be familiar with the answer, because of his age.

Which IMO, was reasonable. Significantly more reasonable than some of the replies. Laura Ingalls Wilder isn't nearly as culturally significant as she used to be, so I find it more likely that someone wouldn't be familiar with her. I felt the same way about "I Write the Songs," which stumped another contestant. Honestly, sometimes I feel that membership here should come with ear hair scissors and Rascal scooters. Lighten up, people! And how many of you are the same ones that howl whenever a pop culture question comes up?

Watch yourself, young man, the Jazzy is the Official Scooter 'round these parts!

Not me! I watch Fuse, I have Relapse AND Recovery, Cee Lo is currently in the cd player and I can name all the Duggars (but not in order).

I also jacked on Mantasia and Stefano for Dougieing on American Idol and nobody knew what the french I was talking about......
