Gonna Be in the Guinness World Records Book!

#1 Post by VAdame » Sat Feb 09, 2008 8:35 pm

Well, along with 699 other couples that is :D

Tomorrow evening Keith & I are going to participate in the "Most Couples to Simultaneously Renew Their Wedding Vows" world record attempt! I don't know what the current record is, but Pittsburgh is going for 700.

Should be fun & a nice romantic pre-Valentines activity. The weather is supposed to be coooooolllllllldddddd though (but I don't care; I'm wearing pretty shoes anyway  They encourage you to wear your original gown & tux if you have 'em. Nope!

Pix will be posted afterwards.

Here's what we looked like when we did it the first time around, 22 years ago:

Belated congratulations on the first-time-around.

Congratulations on the doing-it-all-over again.

Major congratulations for the first 22 years!

OK...vows all renewed! I guess that makes us good for another 21-1/2 years :D

Heck, it wasn't like they were gonna expire, was it?

750 couples participated! The previous record was 272, set in Australia last year. The only downside was the bitter, freezing, cooooolllllllldddd weather (5 degrees, windchills well into the minus range!) Brrrrrrrr! Especially when you want to dress up instead of bundle up.

I did wear my pretty shoes, but I put 'em on inside, having worn some flattie slip-ons for walking from the car to the Music Hall.

The participants ranged from 3 couples married 60 years to newlyweds of less than a year. There were plenty of wedding gowns & tuxes to be seen, some military dress uniforms, Indian saris, and one couple who opted to wear their Pittsburgh Penguins jerseys!

Pix will be up in a day or so, since my "something borrowed" was Karen's camera & I don't know how to upload from it! LOL

You made the "Today Show" and the WABC noon news.

Aw, I always miss the Today Show -- when it comes on, I know it's time to leave the house & go to work! I usually only see the first 5 minutes or so.

In this video, when they pan up to the 1st balcony, we're right next to the pillar in the 2nd row from the top!

I love the slide show, Mary. Hurray for the renewal ceremony, and congratulations for being part of the record. Here's wishing you many decades more together.
