Lyrically Speaking - 2/7/08

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Thu Feb 07, 2008 6:49 am

It's Theme Thirsday, so each of today's songs is connceted by some underlying theme. Don't worry too much about trying to find something real specific.... if you're in the ballpark on this one, you'll get credit.

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, and 3 points for the theme....

1. Speak easy on the grape vine
Keep shufflin' in the shoe shine
Old tin lizzy do it 'til you're dizzy
Give it all ya got until you're put out of your misery

2. It's sad, so sad
It's a sad, sad situation
And it's getting more and more absurd

3. Everything I want the world to be
Is now comin' true especially for me
And the reason is clear, it's because you are here
You're the nearest thing to heaven that I've seen

4. She's got big thoughts, big dreams
And a big brown Mercedes sedan
What I think this girl
She really wants
Is to be in love with a man

5. You never care
For secrets I confide
For you I'm just an ornament
Something for your pride

6. I never knew how long you'd stay
When you hear temptation call
It's your heart that takes, takes a fall
Won't you come out and play with me

7. You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation

8. I'm just a toy, just a funny boy
That makes you laugh when you're blue
I'll be wonderful, do just what I'm told
I'll do anything for you

9. There's a quiet storm
And it never felt like this before
There's a quiet storm
That is you

10. You say Rolls I say Royce
You say God give me a choice
You say Lord I say Christ
I don't believe in Peter Pan
Frankenstein or Superman

11. It took some time but I stopped thinkin' about you
Started livin' without you, now look who's back here
You've had a change of heart, well, mine just couldn't wait, no no
You found out you loved me just a little too late

12. Play the game, you know you can't quit until it's won
Soldier on, only you can do what must be done
You know in some way you're a lot like me
You're just a prisoner and you're tryin' to break free

Only reason it might be either is that for a while local radio stations were programming absolutely insipid music under this name "The Quiet Storm" , claiming that it was real soul music because either Gaye or Robinson wrote the song they took the title of their insipid program from

I really don't do this just to bug you (well, I have a couple times, but I always say so).

This was popular when I was young. My dad played in a C&W band, so I knew this song from that. I either knew C&W and 50's songs from home, rock from my older cousins and my personal preference was ragtime and old stuff (I will so hit the "The 20's Roar Back" day out of the park!). and pretty much nothing in between. So no easy listening and MOR for us.

No problem, love. Me and the rest of my long lost bretheren can use the free publicity.

Now, let's rock this house!
