She's a

Ouch. This was question #10, unrandomized. And I can't say that I recall this particular quotation.

Well, no big graduation present for you. The answer, of course, is "jelly donut". No, wait, that was JFK. So what was Reagan trying to say, or was that really what he intended?

I don't recall it, either, and wonder if it was an unintentional malapropism, like JFK's "jelly donut". Koffer reminded me of "coffer", a term used in Dungeons and Dragons to refer to treasure chests, so even if I hadn't studied German I could have reasoned this one out.

"Ich hab noch einen Koffer in Berlin" were lyrics to a song that had been popular in the 30s or 40s. I forget the details, but I think Marlene Dietrich was one of the people who had recorded it, so the phrase probably was familiar to Reagan's German audience.

Thanks for illuminating this subject, shinycar. I had no idea about the song.

I never played D&D but I knew that coffer meant a storage chest/box so I would've taken the chance that the German word meant something close to that.

Yes, he was played by Bernard Hill in the movie (according to IMDb), who coincidentally played King Theoden in the LOTR movies. But I can't recall if his full name was ever mentioned outside the credits, so the most someone might have remembered from the movie might be the "Captain Smith" part.
I couldn't remember the Mayflower's captain. In a nice juxtaposition, he was Captain (Christopher) Jones.

Not sure if it was in the movie. The only reason I remember it is because Smith was the surname of the captain of the
Universe in Arthur C. Clarke's
2061: Odyssey Three. During the course of their journey, comparisons were made on earth between the spaceship and it's celebritry passengers and the HMS
Titanic when bad stuff started to happen, including the two captains' common last name.
As far as a history major not knowing
Enola Gay, it would depend on what history she's studying!
