Ouch! Nora made a mistake in leading the audience, even though she did have the right hunch. I didn't expect such a big majority to go against her, though. I think what did her in was that everybody focused on "edible plants" and decided that there was only one plant up there that people don't eat.* Too bad Nora didn't lead them a little more. :(

*But it does have culinary uses.

I didn't think it was the outfit as much as it was other things, but whatever.

I'd JTQ on this one also.

I'd JTQ this one because I'm not confident the audience could identify the right answer. FWIW elwing, who was watching with me, thought that lavender wasn't really all that edible and chose that answer.

I would not have thought of lavender as being in the mint family, but chives are obviously onions, so it seemed obvious that that is the answer. Obviously. Which goes to show that obvious things sometimes are not.
Innocent, naive and whimsical. And somewhat footloose and fancy-free.

What am I missing in your logic? Your obvious answer was the correct answer in this case. So what does that go to show?

Oh, I just meant that something that seemed obvious to me, must not have been obvious in fact: the contestant missed it, as did a lot of other people, so the correct answer obviously was not quite so obvious as I thought.

Obviously
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
