Today would have also been my daddy's 80th birthday. He died of smoking related cancer in 1985, and I'll always regret the fact that my kids missed out on having him for a grandpa.
Coincidentaly, I worked on both the '76 and '80 Reagan campaigns, and did a fair amount of GOP work in the intervening years. In 1979 I mentioned to RR that I had spent three Feb. 6s in a row with him, instead of with my dad on his birthday. For the remainder of daddy's life he received a card from RR commemorating their shared birthday. It meant a lot to all of us.
